Now my brake pedal is hissing!

Noticed recently that the brakes are not holding a servo vacuum after turning of the engine, but today there was a noticeable hissing sound inside the car after releasing the brake pedal. I'm fearing that this is the servo unit, and from the looks of it most of the car has to be dismantled to get at it.

Anyone had any experience of servo issues on a Xsara - could it (please) be a simple, cheap part to replace?

To check the servo, with the engine stopped, put your foot firmly on the pedal. Now start the engine. If the pedal moves further, the servo is working, at least to some extent.

as dnsey says, although if the engine has just been run you should pump the pedal 2 or 3 times to expel any pressure, then as dnsey said

If theres a continious hissing when running the Servo is goosed!

Had this on a 306, instant MOT fail, so I fitted one from a L reg 306 to a R reg 306, all was well again. Not quite as hard as I expected it to be.
