Xantia - BITRON relay near engine ECU

Post by lancia58 »

I had a problem in starting the engine see link to the thread

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... =3&t=50336" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Today I cleaned the dust in the fuse box that is mounted in the engine situ and hear a click from the BITRON relay that is in the same box with the engine ECU. I suspected this is related to the starting problem I had so I tried to start the car but I could not. So I removed the BITRON relay tapped it with my finger and plugged it back. After that I was able to start the engine. Is that BITRON relay disconnecting/connecting the ECU from the 12V power. Any suggestion how to tack this problem. Any wiring diagram the details the BITRON wiring and how it is wired to the fuse box will help. BTW Can it be that the BITRON relay is faulty ? The BITRON pin assignment will be very helpful in tracking the problem

Thanks

Maybe I am uneducated on the Bitron, but I thought it was related to the fans/ac only? Maybe it clicking was a coincidence. Try sprayed some WD40/contact cleaners in that area. Sounds like a cold solder joint on some negative terminals in that area.

It powers up the fuel pump and also supplies 12V to some engine management circuits, from memory. This is the tachymetric relay.

Hi Addo

What is "tachymetric" ? From your experience can this relay go out of order ? Do you have the wiring diagram for the relay i.e. the wire/wires that powers it ? And what does it power once it is closed ( I guess by the car main switch )

Thanks
