C5 Engine Re-maps

Post by SwissSPEC »

Has anyone had a re-map on their C5?

Did you get better fuel consumption?

Mine seems to be about slightly down on average & i've been driving the car like a pensioner. So wondered what other peoples experiences have been like, am i expecting too much?

had mine done 4 weeks after having it so can't compare like for like.
2.0 138, should be about 165-170, rolling road was mulla'd unfortunately.
Tourer with slush box, work car so generally carried tools etc - 2 passengers weight?
Average consumption according to Fuelly is below in sig, don't drive a like pensioner, I like to get home.
Pulling out of junctions it will scrabble the tyres on changing to 2nd even on standard comfort setting.
currently '06 C5 2.0 HDi auto estate Tip run and France trekker - well should be!! occupied currently by '10 Superb DSG 170 elegance- whistles and bells that work

If yours is a 2.0. 8 valve they are usually brilliant on fuel, the 2.2 is a no hoper, I fitted a tuning box on mine but it made no difference whatsoever to the fuel consumption, it would still only average about 40mpg although it went like a rocket. the 2.0. should do 50-60mpg depending on how its driven.

Mixed driving, at pensioner speed gets me approx 46-51mpg, although it usually under 50mpg, which for a big estate is ok, but nowhere near as good as my old BX 1900 diesel. I was hoping for more economy with the re-map, but it just hasn't happened. Performance has improved, but not by that much either, its supposed to be good for 140bhp, i reckon it may have close to 120bhp on a good day imho.

I drive at pensioner speeds as I have been one for sometime but haven't driven fast for years. On our annual Scotland trip I get 60mpg + from our 406 estate with the same engine and box, if fact a couple of years ago when it was very hot it averaged 67.8mpg over 650 miles and did actually do over 1000 miles on a tankful.

Strangely though my C5 is not doing as well, it says it is, the computer says its doing more or less the same mpg as the 406 but when I fill the tank I find its actually doing about 10mpg less although the performance is about the same. I assume that yours is doing what the computer indicates which is more understandable, I have no idea what's wrong with mine. I'm going to do an injector leak off test just in case, if its not injectors I have no idea, no rhyme or reason to it.

C5 is a lot heavier than the Pug, that may be the reason for the higher MPG.

Only about 25kg, but that doesn't account for the difference between indicated mileage and actual mileage, that's the most puzzling thing.

Just to clarify, mine is just the 110 2litre 8 valve engine on an lx spec, so no trip computer, this is genuine mileage as per the trip & how many litres i fill the tank up with.

Maybe you have an issue, dirty or not performing MAF, pop it over & we will check it for you :)

Cheers Mark, MAF is new (it did make a difference compared to the old one), i'll get in touch & make an oppointment. Don't get me wrong, its not like its made zero difference, just thought it would be better on fuel & have more oomph as well. I wonder if its intercooler, egr?? I guess a lexia diagnostic may show something? Cheers

Re: C5 Engine Re-maps

Been to see lighty today, 3 errors found, can't remember what one of them was, but one was engine temp, so some manual readings taken & it turns out the thermostat was knackered, so a new one fitted. I'm hoping the engine now gets to the correct temperature, the new readings showed a much higher temperature, so this issue i believe has been resolved. This may account for the less than ideal fuel consumption, if the engine is always cold, the brain would potentially think that more fuel needs to be injected, so fingers crossed the next tankful shows an improvement. One of the other fault codes was something to do with the brake lights, which operate fine? its been cleared so presume all is well. A change in MAF may also yield more positive results, as apparenty chinese copies are rubbish, hence my other post to try & locate one at a price which is sensible, in the meantime my £20 special will have to remain. Cheers lighty :)

Difficult to say but definitely not worse consumption. Started with 37mpg and got gradually to 47mpg with the Auto and now seeing 50mpg with the manual.
