Occasionally Blinking ABS Light on Starting (Xantia 2)

Post by Zelandeth »

Here's me hoping this is something to file under the heading of "it just does that, ignore it."

Something I have noticed on my Xantia ever since I got it is that sometimes (but by no means always, maybe 1 in 10), just as you turn the key to start cranking, the ABS light briefly lights. The reason this puzzles me is that my car doesn't have ABS!

I'm assuming this is just the vehicle systems taking a moment to catch up with each other...but it would put my mind at rest a bit easier if I had confirmation from someone else that it's not a potential sign of computer trouble in the future.

Thought it might be down to low voltage during cranking, but have checked and the system voltage (measured at the cigarette lighter socket so as to be sure battery lead losses were accounted for) was perfectly fine. Didn't think to write it down I'm afraid but think it was around the 10V mark. Worth noting the battery was charged less than a week ago.

Thoughts? Just a quirk to be lived with?

I used to think all MK2s had ABS, but it would appear not - this has been an issue a couple of times for reasons never fathomed, ultimate solution was to remove the bulb....

Thanks for that. So long as it doesn't stay on am okay with it! So far has only ever blinked for a fraction of a second, so not a worry.

Bet if it did stay on that would cause some head scratching at the MOT. What does the testing manual say about a warning light being on for a system which does not and has never existed?
