C5 airbag fault cures after driving 10 mins and restarting??

Unread post by Bobd »

C5 airbag fault (LCD display and"SERVICE" light) comes on every morning after 10 seconds and stays on. I drive for 5 miles to the paper shop on the way to work, when I restart the fault has cleared and stays off for the rest of my 25 mile journey. When I come out of work to return home the fault reappears, stopping and restarting after 5 miles or so clears it. (So not some magical effect near the paper shop!)

I have looked at the contacts under the seat, LH good but RH found to be repaired with crimp connecters so may be a fault known to previous owner. I removed these and soldered the wires and used shrink wrap insulation, did one at a time so not cross connected by me. Also took precaution of fitting a new battery.

How can driving for 5 minutes cure it?

I have had this car about three months, fault started a month ago.

No expert, but the only way I could cure my airbag fault (now an MOT failure, if I've been informed correctly), was to replace the COMM2000 unit with a recon. A pig of a job but it solved it. Mine was permanently on and the seat connections had been checked. If it's intermittent, maybe a dry solder joint heats up and establishes a connection?
