Berlingo BSI reprogramming
When I changed my radio ,the BSI box failed in my 2002 1.9D Berlingo. It is still running but none of the interior lights work. Is there a company who can diagnose/reprogramme the BSI or even supply another ex-breaker reprogrammed to fit ?
Re: Berlingo BSI reprogramming
Have you replaced the radio with an aftermarket one or just a straight swap with an original ? If its aftermarket have you tried taking it back out again & doing a battery reset ? Although the radio has ISO plugs aftermarket units are generally not plug & play on multiplexed citroens, plugging an aftermarket unit in without it being wired correctly can cause lots of electrical problems. Have you also confirmed that you have not blown a fuse when doing the swap ? I've never heard of a radio permanently damaging a BSI.
Re: Berlingo BSI reprogramming
I changed one after market for another the same, as all the pins had fell out of the plug and were touching.
Afterwards the radio wouldn't work unless the interior lights were switched to the centre off position , which may have knackered the BSI. Than I found that the O/S front and /S rear lights wouldn't work. I checked all the fuses ,many times and did a soft reboot many times.

Re: Berlingo BSI reprogramming
I doubt it's knackered the BSI. I'd get it on a Lexia and turn the radio off in the BSI. It should work properly then.

Re: Berlingo BSI reprogramming
If the radio is wired up correctly there is no need to unprogram it from the BSI. I don't really see this being a faulty BSI either.
Re: Berlingo BSI reprogramming
We couldn't get my replacement head unit to work in my Berlingo properly without removing it in the BSI. It worked ok but the dash display didn't behave and gave spurious warnings and froze a lot. Once we removed the radio in the BSI it worked fine.

Re: Berlingo BSI reprogramming
Sounds like the multiplex data wires from the car were connected to the aftermarket set, apart from the speaker wires there should only be 3 wires from the car connected to the new stereo. Ive fitted countless aftermarket radios to various multiplexed citroens & never had to unprogram one original radio.
Re: Berlingo BSI reprogramming
I'm afraid youre getting side tracked.at the moment the moment I dont care about the radio ,it is totally disconected.
However all the interior lights will not work, but the fuses are OK.

Re: Berlingo BSI reprogramming
Hi, can you just confirm do you mean the interior lights in the roof that are meant to come on when the door is open or do you mean all of the dashboard warning lights ?
Re: Berlingo BSI reprogramming
All the interior lights that come on when the doors open ,including in the rear, except the central map reading light which still works. Dashboard lights seem to be OK and work as they should.
Re: Berlingo BSI reprogramming
I still highly doubt the BSI is at fault here, The BSI gets blamed for lots of electrical problems but in reality BSI failures are actually quite rare.
I've also rectified lots of failed DIY & Halfords radio installs on multiplexed Citroens, never saw any permanent damage yet, nothing normally more than blown fuses.
You ideally want to get hold of a wiring diagram to do some further checks on this but I have a few more questions, when you open the front doors does the multifunction display above the radio let you know a door is open or any lights on the dash light up to tell you the doors are open ?
Can you switch the interior lights on manually by flicking the switch to on or is it only not working when the door is open ?
Also might be a daft question But you haven't said you have confirmed the bulbs are good ? sometimes people over look the obvious when more than one bulb on the same circuit is not working. Only last week my father in law (an ex mechanic years ago) asked me to look at his car as he realised he had no brake lights, assumed it was either going to be a faulty switch or blown fuse, turned out to be all three bulbs gone.
Lastly if the interior lights are the only thing not working and the BSI is at fault is it going to be worth the expense of a BSI replacement ? I personally would either live without them or rewire them to bypass the BSI, just run a new feed to the lights & simple pin switches for the doors. The second hand BSI route will still be quite expensive, you will either need a complete set BSI, ECU & key if you want to just plug & play, this will also put your mileage up if the donor car has a higher mileage than yours. The other option be to get a used BSI virginised, this requires specialist equipment & cant be done with Lexia. you would then need Lexia & also your 4 digit security code to program the 'new' BSI.
