Ay up!
Could be but could also be a sign that some of the plastic mouldings in the regulator assembly have cracked. Although winders are not expensive, they are a double dyed villain to replace - not much room inside those doors.....

I'll bet a pound to a penny it's the plastic slide block that has broken.
A new one on ebay is about £8. I've changed one. It's not difficult. I bought a kit of slide block, cables and spool. The only thing that was correct fitment was the slide block.
I think a member called Faz had the same problem recently.
I've some photos of the regulator assembly if you want them. There is a tensioner assembly at the bottom of the regulator that falls apart when the cable tension is released from it.
There is a rubber bush and metal clip that pushes through the glass and the plastic slide block locks into it. If this bush is damaged then the slide block will be working at an angle and won't last long. (ask me how I know!) I've some new rubber bushes here if you want one. they are sold in bags of 5 and I only needed 1. (P M me)
The cables on mine had some minor kinks in them where they wrapped themselves around the spool, just like yours. I re-used them with no problem
