X7 work replacement.....

Unread post by old'uns »

...is this.....be warned, stand well back from screen and put the Mug down first

Image

after many years of self-employment i'm now an employee and this is the, ahem, said 'understated' van :-D

'11 plate, 'lingo L2, Bluetooth, parking sensors, cubby holes and storage galore unlike an X7!
engine is the much maligned 1.6HDi but has survived 152k in 3 years
only downside is it's restricted to 68mph but i'm sure a Diagbox session may just squeeze a tad more out of it

the X7 is now relegated to family car with OH as daily driver so should keep the miles down hopefully.

Or VERY big wheels? You'd hardly notice with all that bling.

As a serious aside, I am told by a recently fined plumber that the average speed cameras on the A14 (and presumably elsewhere) can look up the number plate and know if you should be doing 70 or 60 and issue tickets accordingly. Is it registered as a van or is it a well disguised multispace?

MOST motorway and dual carriageway cameras are now NPR and are normally linked live with a WiFi or Phone link....so yes they will have you in a Van or write a letter of congratulations if in a 2CV.

Just wait for the "Journey Average Speed" ticket to arrive

Well disguised but it is a van, sticker on screen says same speed limits as cars so i'm not too worried about ANPR.
Speedo reads 70 as limiter hits, sat-nav and traffic master/nav says 68 so I'll probably go to 72-73.

well, working away in Ireland last week so time for it's 162k service at local 'experts'

bearing in mind it's a FCSH van, boss is VERY particular about this, even the 2 rear tyres i had replaced are still Michelins, this is what i had to decide yay or nay whilst away.......

2 problems i asked to be looked at:
no power occasionally in 1st gear in traffic or crawling...change to second power comes back
clutch pedal needs pumping sometimes when slowing down at roundabouts etc..no gear can be selected, bit like stirring a cake mix, there's one in there somewhere

guess what? yup, no sign of either but recommendations are:

master cylinder @ £238 and fuel filter @ £120

other 'minor' recommendations are:

nearside washer jet @ £15
oil leak from gearbox @ £215...both drive shaft seals i think?
oil leak from doseur @ £341
timing belt if not had changed @ £570....FCSH so 'should' have been done by previous 'experts'?

in the future:
rear exhaust @ £310
front tyres are at 2.5 & 3.0 mm so another £170

boss got emailed and replied...'£1500 !!...that's the deposit on a new caddy van! sort out the immediate problems and i'll order a new van..'

i'll live with as is and look forward to my new van :)

well it's the 'lingos last week.......

Monday 200 mile round trip to Preston
Tuesday 120 round trip to Coalville
Weds/Thur up to Livingston 600?
Friday tamworth/manchester 200?
Sat / Sun Grantham each day 170 so 340 ish?
Monday take to office in Maidstone on my way to France for hols to be chopped in.

not too bad a week then, just the 1800'ish miles....another 2 weeks and would be due for a service again :)
Front tyres are just about shot, don't think they'll be done 8-[

VW Caddy on the way to pick up on return on 11th July, should be wrapped the same as the 'lingo :-D
Boss likes to look after us so should be Highline spec as per the other 2 vans....Bluetooth, Climate, rear Parking sensors, Alloys and satNav etc

clutch / slave cylinder is still playing up as is the 1st / 2nd gear limp mode which appears to be slowly appearing more often now even first thing pulling off drive

completely forgotten about this

welll the van i was promised sort of turned up...apart from the sat-nav.
apparently 'twas too good a deal to pass on and the wait for a factory order was sometime now from ordering in June

livery as per last van ...ie, bright and gets remarks wherever you go

now to the details....
smaller area in rear than the berlingo although it was an L2 so can't get my longer steps in
nowhere near the storage compartments/space in cabin
radio and sat-nav reception are shockingly bad...coated screen and aerial embedded?
...and for a works van 1 power socket is p*** poor
and when it's raining slightly you can't have side windows open as the water falls in on arms and seat

economy about the same, 50-54mpg
NOT limited to 68mph :-D apparently the Leasing Co. won't allow it as it's a 1 way flash on the ECU

11 weeks work and a shade under 10,000 miles.....looks like the 4yr/100k deal may take a hit :rofl2:
so potentially i'll be swapping for a '63 Caddy which we own from one of the guys in our office in Kent

overall i'd have been quite happy for another 'Lingo L2, VW isn't that much better as far as i'm concerned
