206 HDI cruise control retrofit

Post by praxibetel »

Hi all,
I have a 2004 206 with the 2.0 HDI. I'm very interested in fitting cruise control and apparently it's possible to simply fit an OEM cruise stalk and activate it with peugeot planet?

I removed the plastic cover around the steering column (which has a space for a cruise stalk, blanked off) and there's a PCB with connections for the stalk. The clutch also already has a switch, so it looks like it could be good to go? Would it be worthwhile for me to buy a cruise stalk off ebay?

Digging around online has failed to give me a straight answer, with some sources saying it will plug in and just need activation, and others saying it's not possible to retrofit. As mentioned in another thread I was originally intending to make a custom system with an Arduino but if this works, I'll just use that to display data (L/100km, boost pressure, etc)

Thanks in advance!

It might be possible to do. Citroenxm has managed to do this on a Xantia 110HDi, and he found that the relevant ECU has the necessary programs onboard. However, I don't know what else was involved. It could be worth sending him a PM.

Quite possibly, I've done just that with a 2.0 HDi Berlingo and a C3 1.4, however it couldn't be done on a 2006 1.6 HDi Berlingo as the factory programming of the BSI wouldn't allow it. As your car is 2005 I believe there's a good chance the above method will work on your car but there's only one sure way of finding out,,,

Well, there are OEM stalks going for ~£25 on ebay, and I can always sell it on if I have no joy. Where abouts can I get someone to activate it with peugeot planet? I'm near Colchester, Essex.

Edit: if it has any relevance, my car has a bosch ECU, not a siemens.

Check that your brake switch is the 4 wire type. If so then you should be OK.

If you ask around the Peugeot community you might find someone local to you with a cruise stalk to loan, save you buying one. Although if you buy and it doesn't work you can sell it for the same price you bought it.

Already bought and fitted, slotted right in. I sent a pm to someone on the list who lives nearby, hopefully they're feeling kind haha. The stalk was a £20 ebay job so it shouldn't be hard to sell it on if it doesn't work.

Just remember it needs activating in two areas with Planet. And may require some experimentation as there are three settings in one of the areas - type 2.1 without limiter, type 2.2 without limiter and type 2.2 with limiter.

We had a fiddle with peugeot planet and it wouldn't let us set it from 'missing' or 'absent' to 'enabled'. I think the problem might be that the cruise stalk I have has a speed limiter function on it, and it might only work with the more simple on/off stalk? The car did recognise the stalk was present however, because I could see the status of the cruise switch on the screen in one of the sections.

Doesn't make any difference, the cruise and limiter are separate switches/functions.

When you used Planet did you look in the BSi and injection menu's, plus by memory you need to go into the configuration menu or similar to change settings then verify them using (I think) the code 03114.

We didn't touch the injection menu, never saw a prompt for the code. We basically followed the steps in this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cokOR5cuYUA video, but where in the video 'present' was selected, there was only 'missing' available.

Take a look in the BSi menu as you might find something in there relating to cruise, you nearly always need to change one listed along the lines of speed to RVV, but it varies from car to car.

Unfortunately it's almost impossible to give full step by step instructions as the layout in almost every car is different from the next, largely dependant upon what version of software the car is working from.

I fitted cruise to my daughters C3 using a dual switch for cruise and speed limiter without issue.

I take it that after you highlighted the cruise tag you then pressed enter/return on your laptop or clicked OK?

And then pressed F5 to "write" the data to the ECU?

Yup, wrote the data back to the ECU... I'm hardly familiar with the planet software at all, so a little more experimentation wouldn't hurt.
