Xantia II - follow me lights

Post by longgo »

Hi :)
In most of the new cars, there are build in Follow me type lights, and as many things in Xantia that are out of the list.
My first "hack" was to add relays to Low / High Beam Lights and to take the amperes out of the stalk switch in the cabin. What i have done was first to remove the original 10A fuses (A1-A2, B1-B2)

Image

On A1/B1 pin are the relay controls, from relays out via 10A fuses goes to A2/B2.
Later on(few months), it come the circuit for "follow me", based on NE555 timer and variable resistor. With the second one you can change the delay based on: T(sec) = 1.1xR(ohms)xC(farads) or in my case:
T(sec) = 1.1 x 80 000Ohms x 0.00047Farads = 41.36sec

Maybe the circuit is far from perfect but do the job, and it can be added to any car(for old for sure, new one.. have no clue).
Feel free to test, modify and use.
Good luck ;)

Most new cars have it. Even the Ford Scorpio from years ago had them.

Good idea as long as you're parked in the direction you want to walk in after you get out the car..

Ahhhh......my mistake, I thought it was a headlamp flasher :).....
Thinking of another subject altogether :)

Flasher - no. Just add some guide light. I find it handy if you walk towards garage door, home,.. pull the stalk, lock the car and go ..
Stickyfinger - that follow me is much nicer, though the word should be again with F.. but slightly away of follow :-D

And small "update" or i revisit little the diagram and made new board:

Hi again folks,
That module was working fine until one evening was so cold outside and rainy. The next morning i found my car with lights on. The problem was 1.8V that was passing through that last power transistor. So, if you choose to make that s**t :D is better replace the last BD140 transistor with Mosfet or like me with micro relay:

Image

The size of it is 1.1 x 1.5cm and can bi driven straight from output pin of NE555 timer. It doesn`t need any additional transistors or so, because consumption of that relay coil is around 43-50mA which is far below 200mA that ne555 can handle.
The normal big car relays are more often around 50-60Ohms coils so there is better to have something in between. That`s why suggested P-mosfet instead relay.

I'm impressed!

We used to play around with 555 timers at school, there was a time when I could knock up both an astable and monostable circuit off the top of my head but I'm well out of practice now!

Good work :-D

Another impovement at Xantia is to close the electric windows when you lock the car if you have impulse relay module. Is no need for aditional circuit ...only a wire to link the window module to actuator.

Even better - to add also "option" if start to rain to self close the windows as on C5 :) Well not so useful actually.
About that to close the windows simultaneously with doors lock is actually easy possible with some of the aftermarket central lock systems or just to add from xantia 1 automatic window module to any other door than driver`s. After that only one pulse from the central lock should do the job.. i guess 8-[
Actually i think will be more interesting to add option if you lock the car and still keep the lock button on the remote to start closing the windows..and vice versa
