xantia radio code issue

Unread post by dei9 »

Hi all,

So with my new car, the radio code is messed up, the seller told me he tried the code (written in the corner of the radio manual), and it was wrong, needless to say he was persistent and locked it out. I will remove the unit and check the back of it for another code. I know the manual says to wait an hour, done that (i've read loads on this issue, and my questions follow), but it's still not allowing me to enter a code. So the questions I have is:
1. Does the radio need an additional hour for each wrong code? (how can that be if you have to wait an hour after the 4th wrong code anyway, maybe ignore that question)
2. Does it need the BND button pressed first before the time counts down, so it shows two lines of dashes, not just the middle one? Or leave it count down with just the middle one?
3. Is an hour just an approximation? I've heard it's some kind of capacitor needing a discharge, I'm thinking if the capacitor/resistor are off spec due to wearing down over time, the delay could increase?
4. Could it possibly be locked out permanently? It doesn't say this is part of the design, but could it do that?
5. I've swapped the fuse so it can come on with no ignition, is this the same as leaving it on with the ignition switch on (acc)? It apparently goes off after an hour, is this when it's unlocked or could this happen even with the lock, bit pointless if it does, as it would reset the timer right and you have to start again,
6. Finally, how easy is it to remove the radio, can it be done with a normal set of radio removal tools?

Thanks in advance.

If it shows TWO lines of dash's then its game over for that radio sorry to say!!

Yes really! Im not sure if theres a soft way out... you may need to take it to a radio secialist to sort that!

Ove got a couple of ones with dash's and never sorted them.. I do have one or two that do work and have codes..

it shows two lines of dashes IF i press the BND button, but only one if i switch it on, not sure if that detail matters.

I had to leave my radio turned ON for the lockout timer to expire. Just having it connected to power is not enough IIRC. The last wait (before I got the keypress sequence right) saw it left overnight so had to change shunt fuse over to lock the car

...just to add after a quick coarse search

"My solution was to set the fuse to allow the radio to have power without the ignition key. Turn on radio, press and hold BND button until dashes appear then lock the car and go do something else for an hour or two. Check back occasionally, press and hold the BND button and see if CODE comes up"

I'll give it a try tomorrow, thanks, I did some search, don't really click on every single link, but good find, failing that I suspect citroenxm could be right, I wouldn't mind a radio with bluetooth on it so I can do phonecalls, or play my spotify over bluetooth, so not the end of the world. It's always nice to see OEM radio's in cars, it kinda shows it's not been modified too much in general. Thanks guys.

It does have an aux-in but it doesn't work if the head unit is locked out.

hi all, Thanks for the suggestion. I left it with the two dashed lines, and it asked for the code, the code worked fine and I know have a working radio. So it seems that it resets with the two dashed lines. Will probably buy an aftermarket ones later anyway. Cheers for the support fyys, and Happy Xmas to you all.

If you have a reasonably smart smartphone, you can do as I do - I have a radio app installed and I listen to the radio via that, with the phone plugged into the car head unit. My C5 head unit can be a trifle temperamental but it always works perfectly on the aux input.

It doesnt have the aux in, all i know is it has a clarion cd changer in the boot, but the head unit is basic. I'd love to be able to get my smartphone to liaise with it, but I think it's just best if I buy a new radio later on, this eill suffice for now.
