hi there.
drove the car this morning, switched engine off, engine kept running with key out for about 30 secs, started again same results, Could it be the fuel pump stop solenoid, if so, where is it located. its a bosch pump.Many thanks, tony

Tony, yes, the stop solenoid has to be the first port of call for a problem like this. The only problem is it can be very hard to access if the pump is armoured.

If it is not an armoured pump then the stop solenoid will be visible on top of the distributor body, the cast iron bit on the end of the pump with the four rigid pipes going off to the injectors. The solenoid will have a solitary wire going to it.

The solenoid is in the same place on an armoured pump but hidden and effectively inaccessible.

Do you run on veg oil by any chance? Occasionally it's been known for a batch of gummy veg to cause this exact problem. Flushing the system with a tankful of proper diesel may being about some relief...
