C5 Nightmare

Post by dubburke »

I bought a 2005 Citroen C5 2.2 hdi auto in May, and it has been in my driveway since the 1st day unable to drive it.
Firstly it would go into limp mode at random times, then on the 2nd day of ownership, it was permanent limp mode with various lights on dash including anti pollution fault ASR/ESR faulty, engine management system control faulty, the engine is slow and rough to rev.
I took the car to our local Citroen dealer, who diagnosed a faulty exhaust sensor?, this was changed, but the car still was in limp mode, they then said it must be the ECU, i sent the ECU toThe ECU doctor, who then sent a replacement, the fault was still there, i am very frustrated, but i am slowly loosing patience,also since the car has been sitting, i now have speed control system faulty, suspension faulty and headlight control system faulty! can anyone help.
I live in N.Ireland near Bushmills.

Do you know if there might be anyone around you with the "Lexia" diagnostic kit. It will dig a lot deeper into the car's systems than the scan tools of most garages.

Much of what you describe, will be knock-on effects; symptoms of one or two basic problems.

This would be a good place to start looking for Lexia owners nearby;

With so many random 'faults' recorded, I'd be looking at a knackered battery or poor earth strap etc. Any hint of under-voltage can send the BSI into a tailspin.

Agreed, ZERO point in doing anything without 100% charged battery and I bet 90% of those "faults" are due to low power or bad earth.

I am somewhat surprised the Citroen dealership didn't try a BSi reset. This is how to do it;

If all else fails try a new HP pump pressure regulator, they cause all manor of running faults because the filter gets blocked.

It could still be worth asking if the member 60 miles away could help. Most members will help out where they can. Send them a PM. Lexia, by the way.

Couldn't just have run out of Eolys fluid? Lexia will tell you and identify pretty much any other problems.

where are you dub? there may be members who are not on the map..come to think of it, i am not sure i am :)

MAF could cause some of your symptoms?

I think mine is always failing, causing limp, no or low revs when cold, antipoll, etc.. once car is warm, and sometimes also after I switch off and on, it flies.. so I will live with it for now ;)
I do get some errors regarding MAF.. on the lexia

The engine does seem to rev better when the MAF is disconnected, but it was only replaced apparently last November by Citroen.
