kenwood cd steering controls

Hi
Recently bought a Kenwood M4524G CD/MP3 player to replace the original Blaupunkt radio cassette in my 1998 Xantia TD. Also bought a set of leads (Autoleads PC9 709) to allow the continued use of the steering wheel controls. Only thing is they don't work with the leads fitted. The unit itself is functioning perfectly and the steering switches are illuminated but they have no effect. On inspection the male and female connectors only connect on 3 out of 5 pins. I don't have the pin mappings and the wiring diagrams in Haynes don't appear to match my car.
I spent £180 on the unit and leads from a place called Car Audio Direct and the leads were quoted as compatible on their web site but they don't seem to want to help.
If anyone has any info regarding pin mappings etc It would be much appreciated.
