i have an r reg 406 1.9td, can i use the method of tuning by increasing boost and fuel like other ppl do because mine has an ecu and i dont think the other 306's that have being tuned have and ecu?
also do you think it is safe and are there any ill effects?

I had my Xantia tuned by a diesel specialist but it looks like you can do it yourself. I have an ECU which controls pump timing angle, Exhaust gas recirc and fast timing advance. It doesn't control fueling so you can still boost the performance like a non ecu engine.
My setup had the turbo boost increased then fueling altered to match it. basically there's three stages to consider:-
Initial fueling
by adjusting the inverted cone under the boost diaphragm (on Bosch pump)
Mid range fuel pickup as boost comes on
by adjusting the spring length under the boost diaphragm
Maximum fueling
by adjusting the max fuel screw. This can be hard to get to because it is protected by an anti tamper shield.
My turbo is a KKK K14 (as opposed to a Garret). standard boost was 0.8 bar. this has increased to 1.1 bar.
My Xantia was 92 bhp standard and should now be around 110 bhp.
The adjustments are done by increasing the settings until smoke gets bad, then back off until its ok. This is tricky if you don't use a proffessional smoke tester to monitor CO and CO2 levels, but can be done.
