Lexia on Windows 7

Post by citroenxm »

Ive had to reinstall LExia on my own laptop due to a hardrive fault on my normal LExia Laptop..

Its installed ok, but when I run it I keep getting a stupid error, The New Java Plugin needs a recent version of Firefox browser (Firefox 3 or newer)

Ive got version 33 in and useing it now!

Anyone else had this? Know Why? How to fix???

Thanks..

AFAIK Diagbox / Lexia has nothing to do with Firefox - I've never had Firefox installed on my Lexia laptops.

I don't think it needs Java either, but if it does, whatever the current version of Java 6 is is fine because I have never had to specifically install or update Java for Diagbox / Lexia.

Before you go too much further, is your Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit ? Check by choosing properties on "computer".

If it's 64 bit Lexia is never going to work, you'd need to install it in a virtual machine running Windows XP.

If it's 32 bit it should work fine - my Lexia laptop runs Windows 7 professional 32 bit.

If you have a Windows XP DVD your best bet is probably to download the free oracle virtual box then install Windows XP inside that, then you can install Diagbox in the virtual machine. That's the setup that Ben82 uses.

Uh, that's what I mean. That should work. Download and install virtual box and its extension pack first (as you need usb 2.0 support) then you should be able to launch the XP install disk within virtual box and install windows XP from it.

Once you have that you can install diagbox. It will take some time but should do the trick. If you get stuck I'm sure Ben will have some suggestions. I'm familiar with virtual box but haven't actually used it for running Diagbox before.

you can download a pre made XP VM from https://www.modern.ie/en-gb/virtualizat ... #downloads" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, they're for testing IE versions, but still work fine for using lexia. They have virtualbox images too.

That's well worth knowing Ben, that would save at least an hours work setting up an XP VM!

That needs to be stickied in one of the Diagbox threads... :)

Why not give it a go anyway ?

Downloading virtual box (and the extension pack) and installing it isn't hard.

Then follow bens link and navigate like so:

* "Select your os" - Windows
* "virtual box on windows"
Scroll down to windows XP IE8, download the exe and two rars to the same folder.

Run the exe and it will extract the VM image. Now open virtual box and browse to the image and you should have XP booting within a window.

After that you just install Diagbox within it.

Your original XP key should work.

However if you followed bens suggestion of downloading one of those images from Microsoft those are already pre-installed copies of XP which presumably don't need a license key entering... Ben ?

They don't need a key entering, but they have a process for reactivating or so... or once installed you can take a snapshot of that you just reinstate, whenever the activation time runs out.... Or you can change the key to your own one too. So plenty of options :)

Ben, would you like to describe how to pass through the USB interface in virtual box ?

That's the only thing that's likely to trip Paul up now...
