citroen relay 02 van 2 litre diesel DCI

Post by brendanwexford »

Hi everyone
Im posting this on behalf of my husband Brendan
New to fourm, and hope someone can help.
This is the gist of the problem:

"When I start van up, it runs perfectly
Drive up road and get to about 1900revs and it just dies.
If you switch off the ignition and take the key out, and put it back in again,
van will run perfectly again, but only up to 1900/2000 revs.
Engine management light comes on and van stops."

Is there anyone out there who can throw some light on this???

What would be useful is to get the van onto a Lexia system to see what that tells you. Some places will charge you for this, but many forum members have them, and are willing to help out. The following link has those members on it;

Hi Maggie

Welcome along! You will need to get it on diagnostic computer to see what it is getting upset about. There is a list here: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 19&t=29178" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; of people who've got the kit and may be willing to plug it in. Having said that, if the fuel filter has not been changed for a while, I would try this, as it is cheap, and often the cause of running problems on HDis if neglected!

The possible problem is that the basic generic readers cannot handle the Citroen/Peugeot system properly (if at all), and I speak from experience here. However, the Lexia is a reader specifically for them, and can do a lot more than read the codes. Do you know what type of diagnostic system was used?

Ah, that is a bit tricky. However, sparksie is based in Ballinalee, ROI, a professional mechanic, and I believe, has a Lexia system. Best thing to do is to contact the members on the map, and ask them.

Welcome to the forumMrs Brendon :)

Has he attempted to diagnose the problem and what steps have been taken if he has?

Sounds like fuel starvation to me and the first thing to check would be the fuel filter.
Followed by the in-tank pump, presuming there is one.

That makes things easier!

Just a thought. What happens if you run the engine up to 2000RPM with the fuel cap off. I seem to remember somebody having a similar issue, and it was a blocked breather pipe.

Thanks so much Guys

He is not here at moment, but I asked him earlier, and the fuel filter was changed, so its not that.
Will suggest running it with the cap off.

The same thing happens at 2000 revs - in other words, it will only go as high as that before stopping.
The guy who originally owned it had it into a few places, and as far as I know they all tried the diagnostics.
He got a new van through his job, and gave the old one to Brendan (beginning to think he knows something we don't!)
Its a very good van apart from this problem, but this problem is major, so its catch22.

Sometimes feel a bit like a mechanics apprentice!!!!!
