an 05 bling go 1.9D horn not working

Post by citronut »

i have a customers 05 Bling go 1.9D in for a MOT today,

the horn dose not work with the ignition on of if the key is left in after switching the ignition off,

if the key is completely removed from the ignition lock the horn will work every time, even if the key is re/inserted but without switching the ignition on,

defiantly looks like an electronic gremlin, but what?????
Regards, malcolm.

Wheeler replied to Northern Mike somewhere about the horn on his Berlingo, suggesting that the wires chafe over the top of the steering column causing all sorts of horn oddities...

I'd be 90% sure this will be chaffed wire on the steering column, you may find that its done damage to the com2000 unit now though. Just depends on which wires get damaged & shorted as to the type of problems it causes.

Had a call from a mates garage a while back who inherited a berlingo from another garage after fitting four com2000 units to this van for horn faults, each one would cure the problem for a few days then back to the same again, turned out to be the usual damaged wires at the steering column.

I might have a picture in my archives somewhere on my PC but if you just follow the steering column shaft up from where it comes out the bulkhead just look along the whole moving part of the column & look for any wires resting against the moving parts, if i remember right there is a little carper trim you need to remove to see up to it.

i had a look at the one i have here, there are no wires anywhere near the moving part of the column,
so i tried the battery disconnect trick Stevie baby ( myglraren ) suggested , and bongo,
well not first off but after switching the ignition on an off a couple of times the honker burst into life,

so Stevie baby get the bag of monkey nuts,
thanks for all suggestions

much ass grassy ass

Im trying to upload the pic I have but just getting a message saying Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.
The pic shows damage to a pink & blue wire right by the universal joint.

The wires were pulled back a bit to show the damage to them.
