C5 X7 ambient lighting.

Post by centurus2400 »

So far so good with the new car - it feels far more 'modern' than the Mark 1. Being an Exclusive it has all the toys fitted, though it appears that Citroen weren't early adopters of Bluetooth technology.
This means the mobile phone element of the Navidrive is more ornament than use but I can live with that :-)

More interestingly, the ambient lighting strips under the dashboard are in place but they don't seem to be working.
I can find nothing about them in any of the user menus so assume that they can only be activated with a Lexia.
If so I'll book it in to the local main stealer - seems a shame to have them and not use them

There is an option to turn on/off the ambient block with Lexia, the option in english is called "Presence of the light pack unit", and it is in the BSI part: Menu: lighting – signalling – visibility – rear view mirrors (something like that) ...don't know why that would be turned off if it is installed though ...

Stupid question: have you tried to switch it on with the button on the dashboard while dark?

You have up to 6 buttons right behind the steering wheel, 3 on the left side, 3 on the right side (2 separate blocks) ... of course, not all 6 are included, but you probably have CHECK, Parking space measurement, alarm (if built in) on one block, the other blokc has the ambient light (icon and OFF) and ECO mode ... so, do you have this ambient button? If this wasn't precise enough, I can upload ad photo of how it looks like ...

Mine as well....I do like the LED lighting, it is VERY well thought out and works really well.
It helps you find things in pockets that cannot hold anything

I still haven't figured out how to link that button on my car and the LED strip (remember, I've retrofitted it) ... in theory, that should communicate through the CAN_COMFORT bus line, but what's missing to get it to work as genuine, still a mistery .. plus, the wiring diagrams aren't the least bit helpful ... but, seeing as I don't know when I'd have the need to turn the ambient lighting off, I've wired it to work with the main beams ... the door handle led (so far only on my driver door) is linked to the window buttons light/power, so I'll be really close to the genuine setup .. concerning the auto-light for the door pockets, I also have a few ideas up my sleeves ... :D ...

About ambient lighting for future retrofit...

I have from begining in Exclusive version all ambient lighting pack. Everything works good to... BSI update. After BSI works all lighting except strips under dashboard and button switch. It's impossible to set this in Diagbox/lexia. New version of BSI software don't support this light and button. Even more - when You code in Diagbox Ambient lighting pack then You see fault F043 in BSI - Fault no communication with the interior ambient lighting unit ECU.

BTW. As i know Citroen remove order posibility this lights strips in models after 2009 end.

You would need to have the ambient lighting ECU in the first place though. Who updated the BSI? I had my BSI updated on mine when I had the DRLs activated and they all work perfectly. I don't have the button to switch it off though - this bank of 3 buttons are all blank.

GiveMeABreak in my car C5 X7 2009 Ambient interior light was from factory. Lighting works perfect to BSI update. BSI update was do by Authorizeted Citroen Service. Service don't change hardware mudules (BSI, Ambient light ECU etc...) Only software in BSI. After BSI software update don't work two orange lighting strips under dash and on/off button responsible for this two orange lighting strips under dash. All other functions/lightings etc. works ok.

BTW. i see that vborovic and przemekwieckowsk have the same problem -> https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/ ... 69#p454769

I know they don't change the ECUs etc., I was curious as to why your car was downgraded. Vborovic's issue was because he tried to retrofit the system and ran into problems as he didn't have the ambient lighting from the factory - his car was not an Exclusive model. The additional switch that turns it off is not on my vehicle. There was a change a change with the switch bank from November 2008, but I can't tell you what this was.
