I am back... with a C5 again!! lol

Post by kentc5 »

Well ... I could not stay away from C5 ownership! lol
got last week and today picked it up, a 2003 C5 2.2HDi Exclusive Estate ... with 151.000miles
It has a few faults with it (suspecting EGR/Swirl ....thingies) but cannot know for sure until my new Lexia arrives, I have everything setup on my computer, just missing the cables.

It has everything excect satnav and heated seats.
Full leather black interior, automatic thingies (light lights, windows, wipers etc etc.) suspension is working as it should be! parking sensors them working as well. xenon lighs etc etc, typical exclusive list.
Engine runs nice and smoothly, no smoke from the back at all either.

However the car is in limp mode, and ESP/ASR Fault, EML light illumintated, Service illuminated, the thing that puzzles me is that it does not smoke and runs very smoothly with no noises to suspect.

It has had cambelt changed at 90odd thousands miles, aux belt and pulleys too, eolys tank and DPF changed as well. used to be a company car until 2007, and since then until now 1 private owner.

By the way ... my Peugeot 407 Coupe 2.7HDi it still in the garage to have the dreaded aisin gearbox fixed... (been without it a month now) and miss it ... lol :)

The Aisin valve body is what, £500? Shouldn't take a week to supply and fit.

Well I had some new solenoids that were replaced but they did not make any difference to the operation. Garage been busy and I kind of had the repair as a favour. Have 5 others cars to use in the meantime so not rushing.
I think the valve body is quoted by the Peugeot about £1000 but not sure.

Just jet washed the engine bay of the c5 today. And had it ran for about 30mins to dry out. Checked and topped up all the vital fluids.
I still cannot believe how smooth that engine is running for the age and the miles. I can see the previous owner or his garage liked some diy repairs with black silicon and duck tape. But over all the car was looked after.
Hopefully will have my lexia tomorrow or Saturday. As I want to get that asr/esp +eml + anti pollution fault sorted.
Thing that puzzles me is that the asr/esp warning comes on before i start the engine. So must be the swirl solenoid I think?

There will be at least 2 faults I think... the swirl valves won't put the ESP light on. The yaw sensor is a common (and rather dear!) fault that puts the ESP light on. EML could by any number of things - can't really speculate until you've had a Lexia over it.

You can get the valve bodies cheaper than Peugeot supply them, try someone like "One Stop Gearbox Shop".

I have just found out there is a leak on the passenger rear corner. I have not seen yet if is the sphere or the ram... will have to check tomorrow I suppose.
Does anyone know any DIY guide somewhere for rear seals etc..?

Cheers
Vasilis.

well my new Lexia cables arrived today and installed the 7.49 on my laptop again as the old installation did not want to work, kept mentioning activation.
The new setup did not want to find the VIN number of the car automatically :( ... I checked connections etc... but everything seems fine, also I can hear the Lexia module clicking and making noises to communicate so I cannot fault that.
Anyhow after I entered the VIN mannualy, Lexia managed to communicate only with the following components, Injection, ESP and Suspension.
Injection and ESP had faults the suspension was all good.

Permanent Fault
Pre-post heating relay circuit. Short circuit to positive
P0380

Permanent Fault
Dust Filter (FAP). Particulate Filter Punctured or Exhaust Differential Pressure Info
P1447

Temporary Fault
Flowmeter Signal. Short Circuit to Earth or Open Circuit Flow too Low
(this one I know it is my fault as I started the car and had the MAF sensor disconnected, so this is a false code).

Remote Fault
Permanent Fault
Fuel Additive System. Fault: fuel filler cap presense sensor
P1435

I have reset all the codes, the FAP error code turned to temporary, and then after one more reset with the fuel cap removed, it dissapeared all together :), I took the car for a spin and no limp mode anymore, revved it through all the revs and smoked a bit ... then it cleared and rans nice and smooth.

Let's see if it will last :) :) watch this space.

I was just going through the invoices and service for this car and I am amazed... by the money spent.
As a fleet car it had at 100K miles particulate filter changed, cambelt changed, aux belt and pulley changed, both front rams changed, rear disks changed... etc
Since the one private owner got it he changed again Eolys tank, particulate filter, eolys fluid etc... at 132.000miles (cost him a total of £1350!!!!) they have mentioned then that the fuel flap sensor not working and would cost £45 to put right, but it does not seem it got changed, so that might trigger some problems I guess.
However since I reset it yestereday, everything seems to be working fine :)

There was an invoice for £150 repair , that was £110 for one lightbulb and £40 labout to fit it., I know this is the normal price from a dealer, but that was an independed mobile service.

Hi there KentC5, I'm just down the road from you (Westgate) Recently bought a nice C5 estate that will need a couple of little jobs doing, is there a Citroen specialist in Thanet that you can recommend?

There is one in Broadstairs I used for some diagnostics, (before I get my Lexia), from that experience they seemed OK to me.
They are called A.C. Motor engineers, The broadway.

Shall I assume you want to do more than just DIY jobs? :)

Well I'm going to have a go at the bottom ball joints as it's wandering slightly when braking and like you I've got a Lexia kit in the post so yes, I don't mind a bit of diy. There will be things that I won't want to do though, so it's handy to know of a local firm who might be ok. I'd like to fit cruise control as well and change the gearbox oil, it's an auto, so the diagnostic kit will be well used when it arrives.

Be careful with ebay parts expecially with the lower ball joints ...
I had to replace mine on the 407 twice as the ebay ones lasted 2500 miles!!! they started making knocking noises when I arrived to Greece (I drove my 407 to Greece and back in June), luckily they lasted to bring me back.
When I came back had to replace them again with a better quality ones, but still had to pay the labour all over again :(

If you need any assistable and I have time, let me know :)
Cheers

Thanks, that's very decent of you, I'll see how I get on. I've ordered OEM parts so hopefully they will be good quality…
