C5 rubbish door locks.....3 in last 4 years.

Post by waynedance »

Just changed the rear door lock as it was making a funny noise and sometimes not opening. Thought best to change as did want it to fail and door not open at all.

So far in the almost 4 years of ownership this is the third lock to go, might as well do the last remaining lock !!!!!!

Anyone else got non working locks? in their mk1/2

Not had any problems with mine other than the drivers door on the estate would sometimes fail to unlock in cold weather but a push on the door would fix it.

I have always had the same problem with the locks on my mk1. I find generally that I have to swap at least one lock every six months or so.

Unfortunately its a bit of a vicious circle. I cannot find any aftermarket new units, and the dealer price for a new one is a couple of hundred pounds if i remember correctly, so it is a case of buying second hand scrapyard units which seem often to have little life left themselves.

Touch wood I havn't had to swap one out for almost a year now.

Dealer price was about £80 ish. I so far have done both front and drivers rear. Oh well cheaper than a shiny new car.

The problem here is the MoT, as I believe that it must be possible to open them from both inside and outside.

That's correct James.
