Hello, and welcome to the forum. :welc:

In order for anybody to be able to help they would need to know what the vehicle is. If you could post it up (possibly adding it to your details, in the way I have) you will find that you should get the information you need. Please make sure to give the engine details (gas or diesel, engine size) as there may be differences between them.

Cooling fans on xantias are all the same and mounted the same.. metal inner behind the plastic fan blade centre mounted onto a metal drive spindle..

result? If wet weather corrosion between them that gets them stuck well in place...

Remove the 4 bolts. Remove the grille. Remove the fan centre bolt ( I think it's 14mm ). The fan will probably be stuck fast. Get a reasonable length piece of tubing that fits in the fan centre bore but with not too much play, and waggle it up, down, left and right. A lot. The fan WILL come off eventually. They're a swine when they've been on at least 24 years.

First off, if you can get a longer bar to apply more pressure, and , quite simply do it harder. I had to be pretty nasty with mine.

If all else fails - and this is a last ditch method as it can damage bits - If not, undo the 8 and 10mm bolts that hold the fan to the pulley.

Heat the pulley using a blow torch. GENTLY. Like I said, this *can* cause damage to the pulley, crank oil seal and belt if you get it too hot, so be careful.
Heat the pulley gently with a blow torch.
Now get your bar back in there, and give it some good hammering, it should come off.

Once you've got the pulley off, you must check it in case you've cracked it.

I can remember getting them off by jamming the ring gear, inserting the starting handle, and giving it a good whack with a hammer, but then that was when they were being used regularly, and the points being replaced / adjusted relatively frequently....

I was fortunate enough to avoid having to do this on any of the baby Citroens we had in over the years, but I have heard they can be a bit reluctant. I was usually nursing lacreated fingers when the points were being done, so was happy to make myself scarce. God I hated them!!!
The guy in the video seems to be using a toffee hammer and a box-spanner, so his fan must be regularly removed. Solid bar, or a socket set extension bar, with a proper hammer would be more appropriate, I reckon.
Also, a second pair of hands to pull the fan, while you waggle/hammer the bar, might help.
