Hi,
I am new to this forum and i am considering buying a xsara picasso.
I am looking for a 2007 / 2008 1.6hdi model with 92 bhp.
I was wondering if this model has a dpf fitted, i have read that the 110hp version does but cannot find much info about the 92hp version.
Any help will be appreciated.
Many Thanks
Phil

Re: Xsara Picasso Dpf / Fap Help
Hi, and welcome to the forum.
Unless you have your heart set on it, I would avoid the 1.6l HDi engine unless you KNOW it has been serviced properly. There is an issue with the oil flow design that can starve the turbocharger of oil, causing an expensive repair. I would suggest the 2.0l HDi 8 valve engine, as they just keep on going.

Re: Xsara Picasso Dpf / Fap Help
I believe the 92 BHP version on the Xsara Picasso is without DPF - it replaced the 2.0 unit in about 2005. This removes a layer of complication! In general the non-DPF versions fare better than the DPF ones for turbo life seemingly, but they are not immune by any means. Choose carefully, and you should be OK... I would do the following: Ensure it has a full history of regular oil changes - preferably at a dealer who will have used the correct oil; check the turbo for noise - reject any that whine or rattle; check the injectors - reject any that have injector blowby; once you have bought it, drop off the CAT / DPF, and remove the filter from the turbo oil feed pipe (this alone will almost certainly ensure you never have to replace the turbo); remove the vacuum pump and check for crud build up on the oil inlet filter - if there is any clean it off, then consider removing the top of the pump, and checking the internals - if there are signs of wear, and particles floating about, replace the pump - then drop the sump and clean out the sump strainer. Change the oil more often the schedule, and ensure you use a 5W30 C2 rated oil (not cheap!). If you do this, then you minimise the chances of having trouble....
