anti-pollution system failure citroen c5 2009

Unread post by citroenc5mad »

hi all, when i was driving my car this morning to work this message came up and the engine management light came on.
i only collected the car yesterday as it was getting a new air condenser and re-gassed, so within the space of traveling 30 miles it made the light come on so its back at the garage now what could possibly be the problem. could it be connected with the fact that it has a new condenser nad been re-gassed or could be a lose cable etc??

any ideas guys??

regards dan

It could be the cable that is not connected properly from the sensor.
On the C5 there is a sensor in the intake from the TC just behind the radiator, if you stay with your belly to the car when the motorhood is open on the right side, can't miss it.
That you change your condensor has nothing to do with it unless they disconnect this sensor cable to reach the condensor and didn't put it back.
Have a close look on that sensor and you may be lucky.

Because the anti-pollution system troubles first start around 100,000+ miles (and that usually only if the car hasn't been maintained well in the previous service intervals), meaning your issues aren't related to the DPF service interval, rather something else is causing it (might be from the maintenance done, but then again, it could just as well be coincidence) ...

Okay I thought the DPF was around 70,000 thanks for clearing that up.
I'm ringing the garage first thing or when I get a chance at work tomorrow, so I will keep everyone posted
I know there running a diagnostic check tomorrow so hopefully find out more tomorrow.

Cheers for the help guys

If you have this error the car /engine will sometimes also not come to her top RPM. but don't go more then ca 3000 rpm.
Even if you renew it (sensor) and don't have a Lexia to delete the fault it takes a couple of days before it is gone.
But as above it says, sometimes you have to run more then 60 km P/h to clean all, means give it a blast for a while.
There is also a possibility that a small rubber hose connected to this suction line to the TC as I told above in my previous mail is broken and let wrong air going to the TC, means you have to glue this again.
This line always needs to be carefully dismantled and mounted as there is the sensor built in.
In your case sure they have removed it otherwise they cannot renew your condensor.

I gave it a short blast a before it went into the garage but not for the 15 mins like you said. I will see what happens today if I get it back I will take it out for a good run and open the throttle for a while, I never though about doing this, as it stricted the power once the light came on.

Depollution light is just generic engine management warning light. Not necessarily anything to do with the DPF. When was the fuel filter last changed?

@RichardW, sorry but the fuel filter has absolutely nothing to do with the warning sign.
Either they touched the sensor after the air filter or that little rubber connction in the suctionline from the TC after the cooler broken.
It measured the air that is going through to the TC.

Until it's been on the computer you've no idea what it's upset about - the fact it came after the garage may be pure coincidence (or it may not 8-) ). Fuel filter blockage is a common cause of the light coming on on modern diesels.

Richard, not to make an argument here but let's wait until Dan comes with some more news what his garage found for this problem
Until then, let's hope and see.

Right guys this is a new one on me but I went yo see them and they said there was no light on.
So they are keeping it until Saturday and give the car a good check over, they did run there new diagnostic machine over it (snap-on) brand new only got it yesterday. And found no faults and the ash level, was 28-30% and the DPF was regenerated 3-400 km ago and they cant under Stan why it had a problem.
I will see if it comes on while they have it and will let you all know again Saturday.

Cheers Dan
