Xantia heater blower

Unread post by wallerr »

My 1996 Xantia TD 1.9 heater blower works unless temperature outside is freezing. Frustrating as this when you need it most. Any ideas?

The Xantia heater blower fan runs directly off the ignition switch - no protective relay. Which commonly means a partly burn out ignition switch.
Try budge with your ignition key (don't drive the car !) when problem appears - to see if the fan suddenly will start running.

I have had the same problem with the Xantia heater blower. Moving the ignition key back and forth makes the fan blow. Thank you AndersDK

If your's has "Auto" a/c, the fan should run, even when "freezing", but only if the sliders are set to full speed and demist.
Otherwise mine won't blow until the engine has warmed-up a bit.

I also had trouble with Xantia heater fan, it would run when it felt like it, sometimes at full speed and sometimes slow and sometimes not at all. I had read forum so suspected ignition switch, or speed control unit. However both of these OK, so eventually got to fan motor on passenger side. Took it apart and found that brushes in motor were well worn and jamming in holders, cleaned them out, a spray of WD40 on all parts, then reassembled, motor running at full speed again. This is a DIY job, took me altogether about an hour, 3 screws to remove carpet, 3 screws to release unit, and then the complete motor and fan are a push fit in the housing so straight forward to complete, now have a nice warm car again instead of a mobile fridge.
