citroen c6 hdi 2.7 coolant leak

i have just bought a 2008 c6 2.7 hdi
it has suddenly developed a bad coolant leak coming from underneath the rats maze on top of the block in center
as fast as you put coolant in it pours out i think and recall seeing a post about a water manifold damaged in this area
can anyone shed any light on the subject

There are some very knowledgeable people there.
I have heard of the plastic thermostat housing failing & I think it's located high up, on the side of the engine block.
