C5 HDI Cat/Dpf - what's it worth?

Chap knocked on my door recently offering to buy the cat/Dpf off my 2005 C5 2.0 for £50 if I cut it off for him. He claims he wanted it to fit to his car but the fact he didn't want it removed as a complete section made me a bit suspicious of his motives.

Anyone know what the scrap value of the cat/Dpf would be or what the value of the complete exhaust system might be?

As the CAT is made of a platinum honeycomb this is normally quite valuable. There have been cases where this section of the exhaust has been stolen off vans and lorries. I would be inclined to park your car with the suspension bottomed out for a while.

Are diesel cats made of the same material as petrol ones?

Diesel cats are two way, while modern petrol cats are three way:

That Wikipedia article seems to suggest that a two way cat uses palladium not the platinum commonly used in three way cats.

The car is immovable and suspension completely down so I think is pretty safe from any would be "cat" burglar...!!!!

So, any ideas what it's worth for the cat alone, or what the whole exhaust might be worth?

I'd tell him he can have it for his £50 if he takes it off himself.
