Citroen Xantia Power Steering Pipe Repair Kit.

Post by mardybum »

DESIGN CHANGE
Due to a couple of factors, I have decided to make a minor adjustment to the repair kit. It will in no way affect its performance, but should increase reliability. Instead of two M12x1 fittings, there will now only be one, and three of the M10x1 fittings. The M12x1 adaptor has also been replaced with another M10x1 adaptor.

The main reason behind the change, is that the M10x1 fittings are available in a "long" format, and therefore allow a better seal to be made. The M12x1 fitting is still required for the Power Steering Pump.

Up for your delectation today, we have a CUSTOM designed and made replacement for the Power Assisted Steering Hose on the Citroen Xantia.

I purchased the car, knowing it needed work. The previous owner had been quoted in the region of £500, 2 days, and that wasn't a guaranteed fix either. It took a few £££'s to get it right, and arguing with the hydraulics company I used, but in the end, I made the replacement myself, as I kept getting told that it wasn't possible.

This is guaranteed to fit as a direct replacement for the rusted and corroded one your car currently sports. I know this, as mine is doing so at the moment!

Supplied in the package will be;

1x SAE 100R2S-AT 2 Wire Reinforced Hydraulic Hose complete with Swivel fittings.
2x Custom machined M10x1mm fitting
3x M10x1mm Long 3/16 Fitting
1x M12x1mm 3/16 Fitting

This neat little package will have your power steering and LHM leakage sorted in no time at all, being a direct replacement.

PLEASE NOTE
THESE ARE MADE TO ORDER IN HOUSE AND WILL TAKE APPROX. 1 DAY TO MANUFACTURE!
NO FITTING INSTRUCTION ARE SUPPLIED, HOWEVER, THE PROCESS IS STRAIGHT FORWARD!
NO KUNIFER/COPPER PIPE IS INCLUDED BUT CAN BE SUPPLIED AT EXTRA COST.

May I be the first of many Xantia owners to congratulate and thank you =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> .. I'm sure you will have almost every Xantia owner on the forum making a huge sigh of relief knowing that their cars won't have to be scrapped due to a fairly simple pipe replacement.
My order (its worth it for the just in case factor) Will be in next month.

Jim may I suggest that this goes in the common problems and fixes?

Absolutely. Steve asked permission before posting and although it can be seen as commercial we were happy to have this on the forum given the difficulty this component causes and make a rare exception to the forum policy in these matters.

I am pleased this problem now has a solution.

This is great BUT BUT... Can I ask a Question or two..

Am I missing something or is it the Steel PIPE that runs from this hose along the nearside chassis and along the edge of the subframe to the RACK that actually rusts away on S2 cars, and NOT this hose..

Is that pipe included, or so we with flare tools need to make that bit up??

This IS A PERFECT start.. Also the pipe from the pump to the rubber is 6mm I THINK, not all flare kits include those dies. Though I think mine has. Unfortunally this has come too late to save the T Plate HDI 110 I have thats losts its life and parking space, and no one seems to want to save.

Well thats what I dont understand Malc.

The Rubber is quite long lived, its the rot on the main Steel PAS pipe that fails first. Really, it should be included and a slight more expensive price. The PAS pipe from Pump to Rack was always around 190 quid when it was available...

it seems to me this pipe is a very good idea, as you can couple to each end with kunifer as and when

sFirst of all, many thanks for the warm welcome, and potential "business", although, I make these in my spare time so I can hardly call it business. More a service to keep vehicles on the road, I can't say I've been beaten yet!

Many thanks for the welcome myglaren, and thanks for putting the post in other areas. I've yet to come across anywhere you can purchase the part, or something similar. The hydraulics companies I've worked with in the past were extremely hesitant at supplying any kind of solution.

Good evening, and thanks for your questions citroenxm.. As you'll know, Citroen made the pipe a one piece affair, this replacement turns it in to a three piece solution, thats not only easy to fit, but also a doddle to maintain and repair should the situation ever arise. The pipe I removed from my HDi 90, was 4.5mm either side of the rubber part, I have replaced it with 3/16 CuNiFer which works out to 4.75mm, so the internals are around the same, but the CuNiFer replacement isn't as susceptible to rot.

The CuNiFer connection is simple to make, should you have the tools. If not, thats not a problem at all. They can be included in the kit for a whole £10 extra, cut to the right lengths, connections fitted and the ends flared ready for installation.

The T Plate HDi 110 you mention. If you'd like to PM me with the specifics, we can possibly come to an arrangement depending on where you are in the country.

So, just to clear up for all interested parties, the CuNiFer can be included, with connections and flares pre-formed so you just have to thread it around the car for an extra £10 and thats shipped too!

Offering the whole lot with a total price is spot-on. Had i known that when i fixed my pipe i might have gone this route instead.

The pipe i had to sort actually worked out at 4.75mm when i measured it with calipers. I was expecting 4.5mm.. but was pleased to see it just standard brake pipe size as it made getting the pipe cheaper!

Its interesting really as the rack end uses standard brake type flare and NOT Citroen type flare..

Possibly the result of the pinion valves being made by ZF or whoever. Wouldn't be surprised if the basic casting is shared around.
