hi guys don't know if you can help with this my car was running low on diesel today so I put 20 litres in and the gauge didn't move, I don't know if it matters but the computer didn't read any higher in fact as I drove the car it has continued to fall and is now on empty any ideas on the cause of the problem thank you

Think I read somewhere that the BSI controls the fuel gauge rather than the tank sender. I've also read on here somewhere, about the gauge not showing correctly after running the fuel very low. It might be an idea to leave it for a while ,or try a BSI reset. (there is a procedure on the forum if you do a search). Maybe something to do with the BSI losing it's memory regarding the fuel gauge.

Both my MK1 C5s did this at some point. I just ignored it and it righted itself next time I put fuel in or switched the ignition off and on again.

ok chaps I will leave it for now and refill at the end of the week hopefully It will right itself or its a bsi reset thanx for now talk soon

You may find that disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will reset it - it did mine.

hi chaps fuel gauge is back on £35.00 worth of diesel did the trick it must have just stuck thanx for all of your time bye for now

Moral of the story, never run a diesel too low on fuel. At best your gauge temporarily stops working, at worst the pump sucks up sediment from the bottom of your tank and blocks the injectors. :(
