I.F.H.S comfort Spheres

Post by Smarty2 »

Hi all,
I purchased a full set of these spheres and had them fitted with a full LDS fluid change, the first two weeks my C5 ride was very supple now the ride has reverted to the same as my old spheres! Are these spheres re gassed reconditioned units? Or is there something else going on here? Any thought's as always are appreciated.

i presume you purchased them from here

IFHS spheres im sure are brand new and not re/gassed,

maybe you have air getting into you hydraulic system at some point, as you say after the sphere and fluid change the ride was good, and now its settled its back how it was,

Hi Malcolm, no, I got them from AEP, I.F.H.S ones though, I trust my garage, however the old (6 of) ones were a bugger to get off apparently, well they were on for ten years! they had to purchase a massive pair of stillsons to budge them, it took 3 days of penetrating fluid and coercion!! If air was getting in surely that would mean fluid leaking out at some point? Seems bone dry on my parking space.
Having had a look at various info online the system is a bit of a complicated beast with sensors and ecu's and what not all over the place, I've read also that there is an ecu mod to alter the suspension parameters? Anyone else come across this?

If yours is hydractive could be a fault not switching to soft mode, common fault on XMs but don't know about C5s, mine is the standard four sphere set up. I know its a bit late now but there is a chap on ebay selling a C5 sphere removing tool which he makes himself and its brilliant, it grips the spheres so well you can hit it with a hammer and they come undone almost instantly and I bet it costs a lot less than a large pair of stilsons!

Hi Pete,
I don't think its that tbh I can tell the difference and its not a hard as that, however I forgot that the garage put a heath robinson steering fluid return pipe in whilst waiting for the correct part from citroen, it indeed could be sucking in air? So when I take it back in I will ask them to bleed the system, not that they wouldn't anyway.

If the suspension is rising to normal height the hydraulic system must be working OK. Can you bounce each corner up and down, the rear should move about 4"-5" and the front 2"-3" if any corner doesn't bounce you have a failed sphere. Tyre pressures can affect the ride - so can your blood sugar level :)

Hi and welcome to the Forum. I personally would not use any third party spheres. They may be cheaper, but they are not as good quality as the originals for a C5 MK I, II or III or a C6 that use the slimline spheres. The original Citroen ones have the improved long life membranes, which practically eliminates nitrogen gas loss. The IFHS and other pattern spheres it seems use the older membranes that slowly leak nitrogen.

It's all here in my post with pictures for you to see the difference:
