VNT/VGT turbo

Post by xantiagreen »

Has any one used any fuel additive/cleaner to clean the turbo (forte turbo cleaner/other brands), As I only use the car locally it is never running for more than 10-15 mins. I'll have just covered 3400 miles come sept 1st year of owning the beaut.

Any turbo/egr cleaners that work better than forte for the xantia hdi 110's?

Thanks in advance..

The only thing that really works is maybe a fuel additive and getting the turbos warmed up and then red hot for a while to clear build up off.

There is no real way to get a cleaner onto the bits it needs to get to without disconnecting the downpipe and spraying it on to eat at the bits and even then I doubt it would penetrate into the turbo housing enough to work well.

AFAIK 2.0 HDi 110 doesn't use a variable vane turbo - rather it uses an adjustable waste gate (via the vac actuator) to vary the boost. Just give it a good work out is the best way to keep it exercised!

Other than SVO (not for newer diesels) the best method I have found (and cheapest) is a quick blast on the dual carriageway at 70 in 3rd every few weeks.
