hdi hp fuel pump

Hi hope you can help.
I have a Xantia exclusive the pump went after a150 mile trip to York last week next day dead.got trailered back. Put second hand pump on it on Thursday ran fine Friday Saturday would not start first time but did eventually this morning no go.
I'm not sure what look for seems odd for the same fault to occur. Runs fine when started. Could it be fuel filled up with sainsburys finest last week. Any help would be good thanks.

I replaced the pump on my C5 because it was getting difficult to start, almost impossible when hot, turned out to the filter in the pressure regulator on the HP pump.

Other then the fuel pressure regulator on the end of the pump facing the side of the fuel filter theres nothing in a hp pressure pump to just go like that. The pump pumps fuel at a steady stream its the job of the regulator to control it.

Are you sure its not the fuel tank lift pump being a bit intermittent??
