Diagbox with Win 7 64 bit

Post by Phil16v »

Does anyone know if any combination of Diagbox / Windows 7 can be made to work? I bought a clone on eBay, which came without installation instructions. The ad said it was Win 7 compatible, but didn't say which version. There were installation instructions in Russian, which I've deciphered using my Russian dictionary and Google, and software seems to have installed ok. It loads and validates, and will retrieve the VIN number from my 2001 C5 2.2, and when I've accepted the VIN number it asks for the RPO. After I input the RPO, it goes to a screen with two options - Lexia and Scantools (from what I remember), but neither of them will respond to a mouse click.

I also notice that if I hover over the little man button on the top bar, I get a message saying "User not authenticated", and if I click on it, I get a dialogue asking for the user code and password (key?). I put in the customer code and profile key that I found in the instructions, but it gets rejected, although they were accepted during the installation process.

I'm just wondering if it's because I'm running the 64 bit Windows 7 (Home Premium), or have I got something wrong during setup?

Don't think it'll work with 64 bit 7. I have mine on a 64 bit 7 machine but running within VirtualPC XP mode and it seems to work with no bother.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right

Win7 32 bit works fine - that's what I use on a netbook. (Needs 2GB ram though whereas you can run it in XP with 1GB)

Win7 64 bit doesn't work - it will install, there are 64 bit drivers for the interface, and Diagbox will work but Lexia will NOT work. This means any older cars (older than about 2008) that need to launch Lexia won't work.

So no, you really need a 32 bit version of windows, but a virtual machine install of XP is fine as long as the VM can pass a USB device through.

As with above answers it won't work on x64. It 'looks' like it's working but it just doesn't fully install.

Win 7 Home Premium supports 'XP mode' so dust off those google skills, set one up and then load the Lexia software onto that.

I wanted to keep networking defaulted to off on the OS i have my Lexia running on so i just dual boot x86 version of Win 7 instead but both ways work just as well.

Thanks guys. I'll give it a go. Microsoft say that XP Mode isn't available for Home Premium, but I've found a page on WindowsForum.com that gives instructions on how to get around it. Fingers crossed.

There are at least two forum members successfully running Diagbox within the free oracle virtual box, so as long as you have a copy of XP to install into it that's always an option.

Hi All,
I'm trying to buy a Lexia and have just been told by a seller that it will not work on Windows 7 64 bit even with XP Mode, however he will sell a refurb laptop to me for it to work!! I think I smell a rat!!

So can anyone assure me that they actually do run a Lexia etc. in XP Mode on win 7 64 bit and it will perform fully on a Xantia S1 and an XM please.

Thanks,
Juliet

The problem is with the Lexia software itself. It is so old it cannot run in a 64bit environment. You either need to run it on a 32bit system, or to set up XP within a Virtual Machine that can cleanly access the USB systems. I am running mine on a Toshiba netbook running W7 Starter, and 2GB RAM.

I've got the virtual machine set up with windows xp mode but how do I check whether it can cleanly access the usb systems?

Pass on that, as I never have had to do so. However, I bet it won't be long before somebody who does know will be along with the required information.

Well I've found this page on the internet which suggests that I can either share or redirect USB devices, if I redirect the device can be used in either the XP mode or the host but not both at the same time. So I think I'll give it a go unless anyone else has advice?

There is an option in Virtual PC XP mode, in a drop down menu, that lists USB connections, clicking the required device will attach it. I've never had a problem running mine this way. You must remember however that if you need to unplug the interface (when it tells you to restart it) you will then need to reattach it in the menu.

Re: Diagbox with Win 7 64 bit

I finally have a chinese interface working with diagbox 7.02....or rather partially working.

Win 7 Pro 64 bit with a Windows Virtual PC/Windows XP Mode installed. (Windows Virtual PC and XP mode are free for various versions of Win 7, just installing it on Win 7 will bring up diagbox, but it will just get stuck on the "selection of Application" screen with the Diagbox and PP2000 buttons, and clicking either one will go straight back to that screen).

Vehicle 1 : Peugeot 406 wagon, RFR Engine, AL4 Auto, 08730 DAM.
With much plugging and unplugging of the USB cable, followed by Attaching the USB in WINXPmode, I have managed to get the following results (on a good run) from the Global Test
NFF = No Fault Found, ENR = The ECU has not replied

BSI Nouvelle 406 Bsi Siemens - NFF
Multifunction display, Nouvelle 406 AMF - NFF
Instrument Panel, Nouvelle 406 combine VDO - NFF
Air Conditioning ECU, Nouvelle 406 Clim D9 - NFF
Engine ECU - ENR!
ABS - ENR!
Airbag - ENR
Auto - ENR!

With more unplugging, I can interrogate and activate the features of the Multifunction Display, Instrument Panel, and AC ECUs.

The process for getting it to read is unplug the USB cable, plug back in (dingdong for Win 7 to recognise) Select USB unknown device in XPmode, - unidentified device - attach). and then try read.... rinse and repeat!

Any ideas on why I can't access the engine, ABS, Airbag and Auto ecus?
Will upgrading diagbox to a version between 7.02 and 7.56 help?
Does this indicate a fault with the interface device, the cabling, or with trying to run it on VM on a 64 bit machine, or with the 406?

I also have access to a Peugeot 306R with DAM 08291 nearby to play around with, and a citroen evasion and another 306 can be made available.
Or should I set up a dedicated 32bit XP pro computer....

Thanks

**Update**

I dug out an old XP desktop and installed Diagbox 7.02.

Same results on a global ecu test with no response from engine, gearbox etc ecus.

After continued investigation I believe that there may be a fault in the OBD cable for the tool, or it is just really picky about how it is held.

What works on both XP and Win7/XP Mode is
(a) start diagbox with tool plugged in
(b)unplug and replug tool
(c) start PP2000
It works best if it collects the VIN at this point.
Global Test allows access to only some ECUs as listed above.
Test by ECU allows access to all ECUs.

Process I have had to use for Test By Ecu is
1. Select ECU, eg Engines/Auto --> Auto --> AL4
2. Msg Screen - Switch on ignition, connect portable to C001.
3. Unplug the OBD plug
4. click okay
5. Diaglog Box pops up - Interrogating the ECU - Check - connect the equipment and switch on the ignition
6. Plug in the OBD plug - Dialog Box disappears
7. System ID - reading the ECU msg screen
8. The ECU has not replied screen.
9. Press back up button to go to step 2.
10. repeat 'n' times
11 Finally get ECU menu screen.

Hopefully I can get this working better!
