URGENT URGENT HELP NEEDED C8 2.2HDI

Post by C8Charlie »

Hi guys and sorry for the heading but I am at my wits end.

I bought a beautiful C8 2.2Hdi with low mileage and as spares or repairs some 6 weeks ago to find that the timing belt had snapped, I discussed my options with my then trusty mechanic to see what would be the best and I decided on an engine transplant.

My mechanic had gotten into some issues and 2 weeks after he had initiated the whole project he phoned to tell me to come and collect my car as is, a heated discussion took place but I went, collected and reported him to trading standards after the whole ordeal.

I decided to carry on with the project myself, now, as you can imagine, I have no idea where anything goes as everything (electrical connectors, vacuum pipes and everything else) was all over the place and I had no orientation to start with what-so-sever.

I have managed to get everything connected and the engine in the car all secured (the mechanic also stole the lower engine mount from me) and I am left with a serious dilemma, after 3 days of putting it all back together I now have a series of vacuum pipes that are under the windscreen, going from 2 vacuum pumps to god knows where so my question is this, would any of you have a diagram or be so kind as to take photos of your own vacuum pipes so I can then locate their destinations as I am bewildered, I have around 6-8 pipes but no idea where they go.

I say URGENT because I need this car finished by Tuesday as I am supposed to be leaving on holiday with it on Sunday and it still has to be MOT'd, taxed and driven hard for a few days in case of any issues that may come up.

Here's a few of images:

Please help if you can as my family and I have been dumped in the tip with this and we love the car but don't have room in our scenic to take my family (Me, the wife, the mother and sister in law and our 1 yr old) to France.

Many thanks in advance and I hope someone can shed some light on this for me!

Cheers
Charlie

hi and welcome

sounds like your right in the deep end,

i have no experience of to C8,

firstly were are you located as there may be a forum member near you with adequate knowledge of were it all goes,

if not and you post the last 8 digits of your chassis/VIN No. RichardW will be along and get and post drawing from service citroen of the layout of the vac pipes,

i could but have not got the hang of copying drawings iver from there yet #-o

or you could register on service citroen your self

http://service.citroen.com/pages/index.jsp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

then you can enter the last 8 of your chassis No. and look for your self [-o< :-D

Thanks for such a quick response!!

I am in Swansea in South Wales, I will get the digits from the VIN later as I will have to pop over today to get them (on the mother in law's drive) after I finish work.

I have however registered on there but it seems my UserID is too long? I paste it in and it cuts the last digit off and then doesn't allow me to logine saying UserID or Password incorrect.

Thanks all the same!

the chassis/VIN No. is on the registration doc,

with your registration attempt on service citroen maybe try changing your UserID for a shorter one????

I have tried all sorts on Citroen's website but to no avail, thanks all the same!!

I am desperate to get at this today, I also have one other question, on the gear linkages there is a third wire with what seems to be a sensor at the end, any ideas as to where this goes?

If you mean a third gear change cable it's the reverse lock, slides in and out when you lift the gear lever bit to get reverse, fits in at the top of the end of the gearbox , held in by a torx screw.

That's supposing you have the right gearbox type.

Yep, got my finger stuck in a hole and then had an epiphany!!Reverse lock locked in, vacuum pipes' whereabouts all located and installed, front end back on! completely and utterly dead battery!!! AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Thanks guys, a great help but I worked it all out in the end by following the curves of the pipes and a bit of common sense, seems to have done the job, now to fill with fluids and fingers crossed!!!

I do have one more question however, I noticed a connector dangling down from the back of the steering column but no hole to plug it into anywhere, I mean, it just seems to dangle there all lonely, looks like an 8 pin or could be 10, very fine pins close together, forgot to take a photo (would have been easier!!), any ideas?

as you have swapped engines what ECU and electrics have you used,

as you might have troubles with the immobiliser unlocking

I have used the exact same ECU and electrics that were on the car, the engine I took out was a 4HW and I have put in a 4HX, I consulted this with Citroen before I actually bought the engine and they said that in essence it's the same engine.

That is irrelevant right now as I have 0 electrics, nothing. so I think I may have done something wrong along the way, I have checked all of the fuses and they are A-OK!! so I think I may have wired it wrongly somehow, maybe the alternator or something but it seems like the loom is not completed, as if there is nothing connected.

Any chance someone here has the wiring diagram (simple as I am that way) or pictures of how the connections are on the alternator and starter motor as I have a feeling now, whilst writing this, that I have linked an earth wrongly to the starter motor and not to ground so therefore leaving the loop incomplete, viable thought? or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Cheers again for the help, much appreciated!

Can I ask you this then, how many cables did you have connected to:

1) the alternator?
2) The starter motor?

I have 2 to the alternator (both on the main bolt) and the clip
I have 3 on the starter motor (one thick cable coming from the right and then the loom with the thick and small connecting heads) If that makes any sense?

I think the starter should have just the 2 and the other (coming from the right) has to be the engine earth!!

Some pointers would be fantastic as the clock is really ticking now!

Thanks again!
