When I checked my C5 Year 2007 chassis, I found something rubbery that is melting/rotting away. Please refer to the below picture (Notice the big round black spot?):
Is this something critical and in need of immediate attention? Is this part replaceable?
Looks like the bump stop fallen apart. I changed both of mine as the same happened to me.

if you send me the last 8 digits of your chassis/VIN No. i will get you the OE price and part No.
without looking there may be variations of the bump stop over the years, but may be not,
so with your VIN No. i can make sure either way

I had to replace these on my 2007 estate; my wife's 2005 estate will need a replacement pair this year, so it seems as though they are common to fall apart
Counter intuitively the ride on the car gets worse when these snubbers are worn out.
The reason is that when you accelerate the rear suspension tries to squat - without the snubber the suspension can fully bottom under acceleration which means you have no suspension travel left should you hit a bump. Also the excessive suspension movement causes the height corrector to react a lot more to acceleration squat than it should, so you spend more time with the suspension too low or too high.
With the snubber working the snubber is stiff enough to resist the force of acceleration induced squat, (it comes to gently rest on the snubber) and thus prevent the suspension squatting right down, but not so stiff that a bump can't compress the snubber to allow the suspension to move further and absorb the bump. Well worth replacing.
