It'll be quicker to split them on the floor, the C5 I dislike but it is at least made to give up its driveline quickly.

Not a C5 but a Xantia but I took the whole lot out the top with an engine crane. I think removing the gearbox first from underneath and then removing the engine will be more work and effort than removing them as a unit. It's easier to deal with separating them etc once they are out. Unless you have a ramp, transmission jack etc then putting them back in together from the top is going to be much much easier.

You can unbuild the front and drag it all forwards.

Yep that's about the size of it. Stripping the front end first stops stuff getting damaged in the process.

Surprised at all the advice without knowing which mark C5 you have, but maybe they are all the same under the skin. In any case, I'm sure some pictures of the engine removal would be good for those with the same model. Good luck with the job .

All cars are fundimentally the same these days. Fronts unbolt, always amazes me how little seems to be there on modern (well less than 20 years old), none of this welded in RSJs of the past. Just the added complication of all the plumbing on some Cits.

As in David Hallworth's blog... it's a Xantia, but will look much the same once the front is dismantled!

Are you going to replace it or repair it, if you're going to repair it do it in situ, sump off head off pull the pistons, none of it is too much of a trial.
