how do I get wipers off to change them c5

Post by boristhespie »

I got new wipers but I can't for the life of me figurr out how to remove the old ones. They are the flat type and seem bolted on. How do I get them off?

Also related. I used Halfords website to identify Bosch Aerotwin A310S as the correct type and then bought them from wipersdirect. Thing is it says Mondeo on the back?

Are these ok?

If you lift the arms up and turn the wiper blades 90 degrees to the arm then they should just slide off the pins. Fitting is the reverse.
Don't worry if they say Mondeo, these types of wipers are fitted to lots of cars.

If the problem is how to get the wipers to park vertically so as to be able to tilt them forwards, then the trick is that when you turn the ignition off, there is about 30 seconds to push the wiper stalk down once to park them vertically.

I found this out totally by mistake after i had used a wiper puller to get the arms/blades off previously.

Also used a puller ... until I read the owners’ book.

Just got them off and found that the wipers which Halfords recommended for my car via their website are jot compatible. At least to my eyes. That's £30 down the drain.

Halfords would have fitted them for you.

I bought some of the Aero wipers from eBay, six quid. Seemed OK but one blew off while my son had the car, bought a pair of Bosch ones from my local car bits place, a tenner and they are superb. Guy even fitted them, insisted on it.

Take them back to Halford's and have them fit the correct ones.

These are Bosch jobbos. Just the wrong jobbos. And no Halfords wont fit them.

Hmmm
According to their advertising, yes they will!
I'd certainly be making a nuisance of myself if the ones they recommended are not right.
Sale of goods act, for a start!
They charge enough for (often lower quality!) products to be made stand over them when you buy them.
Some of the Bosch "universal" fitting adapters are not really universal and a brand specific adapter has to be bought separately to make them fit the arm.
Before shelling out for this, though, check the old ones. They may still be servicable and will probably fit the Bosch blade.

True^
I am frequently parked outside Halfords, visiting the shop next door.
There is generally one or more Halfords employee in the car park fitting bits and pieces, mostly wipers.
