Handbrake tube C5

Unread post by daviemck2006 »

Has anyone changed a handbrake tube on a C5? I now have the tube for my handbrake cable. When I was under the car last week the tube disappears under the exhaust heatshield. The tube looks as if it just pushes onto the end of the lever, and one bracket on the wheelarch. However the length of the tube would dictate that the heatshield will have to come off to get the new tube in. Will this come off without first removing the cat/dpf, which ever bit it is, or will it unbolt and come out without disturbing any exhaust components? The BOL tells me how to change the handbrake cable but does not even mention the tube it runs in. This job is now earmarked for the next fine day there is here, along with oil and filters change once the car is up in the air. Then it is MOT, even though not due until 5th July, that date is my daughters wedding day, and I may be called in for the procedure I am due to get at any time so dont really want to have the car ending up a last minute affair. If anyone even has done the cable tubes on a xantia, never know it may be a very similar job.
