problem after replacing lower front ball joint

Post by dowen »

To day I set about changing O/S lower ball joint C5 2lt est auto 2006. Got the old one out, but very tight! Every thing vent well, or so I thought!
however, try as I might I cannot I cannot line up ball joint with wishbone. they are about 2" apart, Ive moved suspension every way ,removed droplink, removed trackrod. Nothing I do will make it line up!

Is it possible Ive pulled the shaft out a bit? Although I chained the hub to the frame it was very tight and I had to use a lot of force.
If I have pulled somithing what would be most likely to give and whats my next course of action?
Dave.

Try jacking up the other wheel unless its on the ground otherwise you are fighting with the anti roll bar. Is the driveshaft centre bearing pushed right in?

I'd say it's a driveshaft engagement, or CV joint separation issue.

Thank you gentlemen, yes, I think ive pulled the inner cv joint out of shape, problem is now getting shaft off! as I cant put any weight on hub nut as its not supported by the wishbone!
Any one know of a scource of cv repair kits?
Theres a lesson here! Make sure hub is well strapped when undoing bottom ball! Dave.

Pull back the boot, you should be able to reassemble the CV suitably.
