C5 steering 'play'
hey, recently i can feel some steering play. it feels like a positive stop to left-right when jiggling the wheel, and it feels like its on the column. i can feel it with everything turned off. anybody know where to look first ?

The universal joints in the steering column can wear, mine have, an indication is a rattle in the steering when driving over rough ground, it needs to be fairly rough though, I have to drive along a forest track to reach the road and that makes it rattle but you don't notice it on tarmac.

thanks, unfortunatly after much checking, and hearing the clonking outside louder i think its the rack !

Could be the u/j on the bottom of the column under the car.

hi, i couldnt see another UJ after the floor, it went straight into the rack ?

Could be right, most have a u/j underneath but maybe not the C5.

I'd check first to see if the steering wheel bolt is tight. If anyone's been messing with the comm they may have not got it tight.
