HDi fuel economy digit

Hi how accurate are the fuel gadget/read out. ive one in my 2001 picasso 2.0 HDi im getting around 58 MPG

Sounds about right. I used to have a company one, and, although I couldn't hit your mileage, I got a good MPG out of it, even when loaded with all the work kit.

Hi i must admit it is good on fuel as seems to go a fair way on it. i stick to around 55/60 mph on open road with no rev counter have to watch revs(felt) to gears/speeds as with instant mpg sometimes better in lower gear(4th)

On mine, going down St Peters Hill in second used to return 999MPG!

The one on my 406 is pretty accurate but the C5 one is reading about 10mpg high, when it says I'm doing 60mpg I find on refilling it its only done 50mpg.

58 seems high for a 2.0 Picasso - never got much more than 45 out of ours. Ignore what the computer says - what does your wallet say when fill it up? 58 mpg is 12.75m / litre roughly, so a 50l tank (which I think these have) would return about 640miles.

Hi i will have a check on it as just getting used to all the little odd bits with knobs and whistles on dashboard etc with resetting it when refuelling but does seem good though but i do normally get good returns when driving as not an on/off pedal driver and let the engine pull instead of pedal down to floor like some i know!

Friend drove like a pesky nodding dog when you used to get out for next hour you'd be rocking back n forth from it like one of those old paraffin trucks that didn't have a baffled tank!

Hi well it's not that far out apart from mileage error in tyre size as 185 if went to 195 think speedo would read spot on like zanty did after changed to them.
But got around 400ish for £40 @£132.9 so not unhappy.
Mind i do get good returns on things when driving as used to or got 40mpg out of my 1.8 nissan bluebird estate 4speed on a run where as most struggled to get 30's. nice smooth foot let the engine pull it

That heavily depends on where you drive and how you drive. For long distance at moderate speed this figure can be achieved.
my 2.0HDI picasso returns around 48-49 MPG on average during my normal drive (mainly go and from work 11miles each way) all seasons except winter. And it has dropped to 45MPG the recent months because I moved home and the driving distance shortened to 5 miles each way which means the coolant can hardly reach the normal temperature level, not to mention the oil temperature. During long distance trips for instance to Europe, it can return around 50MPG overall.

I don't see much difference between the digits on display and that calculated from pump readings.

I drive my c5 HDi 2.0 with various driving styles ...

driving mostly alone on an average week, hills and commuting, 30L always gets a touch over 300 miles.. which is.. erm.. roughly 50MPG .. that seems my normal 'every day' real world average.. it would be 55+ on a motorway at 70, even higher at 60mph


these engines are now old... but very good.,,

I sat in a friends (new) 1 year old Volvo derv yesterday, a v40 or something.. it was a very racey engine, hard to believe a diesel ! when revved.. sounded more like a motorbike
