Citroen C5 Mark 1 - retrofit sat nav?

Post by R9UKE »

Hi chaps.

I've just bought a 2003 Mark 1 C5 V6 Exclusive SE for very little. It needs a bit of work, and just this evening I've been offered another C5 V6, this time just an Exclusive, although it does have full leather.

Would it be easy to transfer the nav from the SE into the other car? Or are we looking at some ridiculous task?

Cheers

I think the main concern is that you have to replace the entire top dash (due to the bigger screen), because they didn't make just the center (screen) part removable, it has to come off entirely, and be replaced with the top cover which has the larger opening (or taller screen compartment if you will) ... apart from that, if you have all the necessary wiring and equipment, it shouldn't be impossible ...

The other thing to bear in mind, of course, is that the Satnav may need to be coded to the car, I know is does it the later ones....

Plus, on that age car, you might be looking at map upgrades to 2007 (ish) with that Nav. I'm sure I read somewhere that they can only be upgraded for a few years.
Be interesting to know what the difference is between an Exclusive SE, and a "just an Exclusive" is.

If it's anything like the later cars, it would depend on what the first owner required I think. There were so many things available as extras that it's difficult to know which model has what spec.

You can still get up to date CD maps, I have 2012-13. Mine has heated seats only they don't get hot...

My 2001 Estate SE has Sat Nav, (now losing one colour). Radio with CD multi chnager.
Leather all electric heated seats, except the drivers heater doesn't :-( Large Panoramic Sunroof and thirsty 2.2 diesel on an HP20 auto box.
Frankly the SAT Nav is not worth having in my view, it's routing abilities suck and image detail is minimalistic by comparison with that available on the average smartphone.
About the only time I use it is when I am lost in a suburban area, if I tell it to go to HOME it will usually get me to a recognizable A road somewhere :-)

Well, you're talking about a device that is 13-14 years old (GPS), you really can't expect it to compete with anything newer than that, even if they're cellphones ... today's average smartphone's hardware can top almost every other device older than say 5 or slightly more years with no problems ... and the car user interfaces in general have come a long way during the years as well ...

Can't argue with any of that :-) mind I don't think it was that great when introduced.

The thing that people often forget is that car manufacturers aren't manufacturers of car electronics, so you can't blame Citroen for poorly designed entertainment systems, rather, manufacturers of such devices ... the only blame which could be put on them is because they decided to put one kind of a unit, if they could put another (better) one, nothing else ...

Well both cars are now home and side by side.

The only two things my Exclusive lacks over the SE are sat nav and the under seat CD Changer. Tomorrow morning if the weather is good I'll start taking a look at the possibility of transferring both, or at least the changer!

Luke, Check if you have the cabling under the seat for the CD changer.

If you do i have a spare changer in the garage as you will need to remove the seat fully to transfer the holding cage as well IIRC.

The thing that people often forget is that car manufacturers aren't manufacturers of car electronics,
So what are they manufacturers of my friend?

Not Garrett turbo's, Teve handbrake systems, Bosch fuel injection. ZF gearboxes, Siemens Ecu's , Lesjofors springs, etc etc.
