the milometer on the synergie is broken looks crashed ... is it a big job to refit that and can i buy a scrap unit

If the speed is working OK it will be a faulty unit. The only problem with replacing it is it probably wont read the true mileage, I think it will read the highest one between your car and the donor. Doesn't matter with me as most of my cars have done well over 200,000 miles anyway.
