What does your handbook specify?
If you don't have one there is a pdf.
A quick look says take it to the dealer :(
Is there any indication on the filler of what fluid is specified. On mine it is LDS only but that is a Hydractive 3 system, a steel sprung one may be quite happy with standard power steering fluid/ATF.

Think it's the same handbook no matter which model and only other mention is of
Power steering oil atx ? No reservoir to speak of as such but a filler , residue is very much black not orange , which is why I
Wondered

Had a shufty through that handbook and the only info appears to be that on page 149, and is singularly unhelpful.
A quick Google didn't return anything definitely useful either.
If it is black it might need changing.

Yes probably , only checked as it's developed a noise at low speed when steering , don't want to drive and cause any damage , but at the same time was hoping a top up would sort me until I can get sorted later in the week

Thanks

You may be able to identify it by it's smell and chuck in something similar on a very temporary basis then flush and replenish.
Running low may damage the pump. Using the wrong fluid may possibly coagulate the lot or cause foaming - unlikely but can't be ruled out completely

To add to the not very helpfullness :( DocBackup merely says:
Tous véhicules avant CITROËN C5 All Vehicles Before C5 - Total Fluide ATX : Special Oil Dexron II / GM6137M
Tous véhicules depuis CITROËN C5 All Vehicles From C5 - Total Fluide DA - Special Oil - Types LDS
So I suppose you could read that as C5 onwards takes LDS.

There is further reference in the 'Draining and Refilling' section to:
Proceed with care in order to avoid entry of pollutant particles.
Use new oil for filling and topping up the hydraulic power steering circuit.
Use only the hydraulic fluid TOTAL FLUIDE DA.

This info was taken referencing my own steel sprung 2009 C5 in Cit DocBackup
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(
