As above. Been getting worse for a while. I assume if it's not the brake light switch, then it's something in the centre console and expensive?

There is a brake pedal switch in the C6 and C4 that can cause this if it fails (among other things). Is that what you mean by brake light switch?

If not, the one I'm thinking of is in the passenger footwell, and is a plastic plunger assembly with an electrical switch, which registers when you have your foot on the brake. It may well be the same part in your car (so much else is common). I replaced the one in my C6 when I had the same problem. Only about £20 from a dealer, and a 10 minute fix.

EDIT- It's item 6 here:

Oh thank you!
I think that's what had been ordered. It's had to come from the internet as the local dealer had been awful with this part.
It's a friendly garage that will be fitting it.
I'm hopeful it's just this.
Thanks again

I had the same problem with a Volvo ...
It turned out to be the button on the gear selector getting stuck slightly so that it wouldn't move unless I pulled the button out fully by hand ... Might be worth checking.... Nothing ventured, nothing gained ...

I've booked it in somewhere as I have a warranty with warranty direct.
Who wants to guess where warranty direct have told me to take it?

The C5 doesn't have a little button it just uses the foot on brake method. I guess it's a relay in the panel somewhere but I couldn't work out how to take it apart and I would be just guessing.
I'm not mechanically minded so simple stuff is beyond me.

It is a relay, have changed one before, unfortunately due to Alzheimer's , I can't remember where it is .
I you press the brake on & off, you should be able to hear it (when it works )

Thanks, I've noticed the click when it works. It seems to work better when it's been in the sun.

All fixed! Feels like a very smooth action now the relay not blocking it. Must have made it notchy when it wasn't actually stopping it. Happy
