Evasion 2.0 HDI non starter

Post by Barry1 »

Hi all,I'm new here so treat me gently!! I've just acquired a 2001 Evasion (I live in France) that has been standing for about 3 years after the owner died it's in all round good condition. BUT it wont start I've put a good battery on it and she turns over freely but will not start.I've checked all the fuses I can find they are all good and have now taken the two top pipes off the fuel filter housing and when the ignition is turned on I get a good flow from the right hand side and nothing from the left (could be a return?).The car was used daily until he took ill so there was no problem when it was parked up.I've heard it's not recommended to loosen any thing on the high pressure side so how can I tell if the HP pump is working? Any ideas/help gratefully received. #-o

Hi Barry.

Its PERFECTLY safe to crack open one of the injector unions, then spin the engine over in the car then go back to the engine and see if theres fuel all over the engine around the injector!

Right side fuel pipe is a return, as you have a GOOD flow then you have a working lift pump.

Other things, Crank Sensor on top of the gearbox up against the engine block.

NO Fuel at the injector could mean two things either a dead engine pump, or cam belt has broke, having fuel at the injector will proove the belt is intact.

I wonder if there could be an issue with the immobiliser system?

Thanks for the replies I suppose a bit of good news I cracked open an injector pipe and there is fuel :-D so I put a 12 volt test bulb in the injector socket an there's nothing  The doors operate with the remote and the indicators flash as they should but the red light on the dashboard does nothing? would the immobiliser stop the engine turning over or just not let it start?
Citroenxm you've got one of my favorite cars on your list 3.0 Sei auto I loved mine.

Immobilzer will ONLY stop it from Fireing up if its faulty.

Some actually STOP the starter so theres no click or starter sound, others let the engine spin but wont fire up.

Try the crank sensor.. but will take some stripping out to get to it on the Van...

The XM.. Yea, Poor ole girl is looking a right MESS on the outside now. I did 40k in her, on LPG too, but now been laid up for three years or more needing some work, of which I have all the bits to do, just NO time to do it.

I agree, A GREAT MOTOR ALL ROUND!

On Gracie it only goes out once the engine is running. She has a 2.0 HDi engine.

Thanks for that, just clutching at straws at the moment is there a way of checking if power is getting to injectors as the way I tried only works on petrol injectors !! or can you disable the immoboliser mines weird no flashing light on the dash at all.

You can't just poke and hope really - you need to get it on a Lexia so you can check immobiliser status / fuel pressures / crank signal / cam synchronisation etc. Then you will know where to look. List of people with Lexia that might be able help here: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 19&t=29178" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; where abouts are you?

When you turn the ignition on does a square white light with a key symbol come on in the dashboard? If so, does it go out within a second or so? This is the light for the immobiliser, and, provided that light goes out, indicates the key has been accepted and the immobiliser has been switched off (I am basing this on what happens with Gracie, my Xantia, also a 2.0l HDi)
