Bit left over from Lucas injection pump reassembly

Post by red_dwarfers »

I'm putting my mechanical Lucas injection pump back together but I have one piece left over. I'm certain it came from the top left distributor outlet (with the pump the right way up and ditributor head facing you) but it doesn't make sense as I would expect all the outlets to be identical.

Can anyone shed any light?

There is a hole in the bottom leading to a hole in the side. I forgot to take measurments, will add them in the next day or two but its around 10mm long and 5mm in circumference.

Kev and I have already had some chats about this Malcolm and sadly I don't know :( Even more sadly i no longewr have any Lucas DPC pumps in my possession otherwise I'd have stripped one to see where the errant bit went..

It was my suggestion that Kev post up this thread in the hope someone else might know..

If anyone has a DPC kicking around acting as a doorstop and wants to get it over to me, perhaps via the X rally, then I'll strip it and see where the missing bit goes...

ok Jim

so what car did the pimp originally come from, as maybe i/we could look on service citroen or pug service box in the hope there are exploded drawings,
unless there are dedicated sites like Merlin diesel's with exploded drawings,

Kev
if you click on Delphi / Lucas Pumps at the top of the left menu, then scroll down the thumb nail shots the last image on the third row down, looks like the spare bit you have left over

I don't believe it's one of those Malcolm. Those in the illustration are the HP pump rollers in their saddles and they have no holes in them plus they’re very precisely machined whereas the bit Kev has left over does have holes and does not look to be as precisely ground as the rollers are.

The way the rollers are installed you'd know as soon as you turned it if one was missing. Plus Kev's pump does actually pump to a degree, just not enough by the looks of it to fire an injector. If a roller was AWOL it would not pump anything out of the delivery ports at all.

It's a good find Malcolm and potentially a good source of spares... I have it bookmarked.

The exploded diagram is excellent...

The rollers in question are item 64 in the picture..

Those replies made me chuckle!

Potentially puts a spanner in the works for a Royal Navy Engineers career then!

I've come across that site too Malcolm. Did save a few diagrams.

On the off chance I asked the local diesel specialist and they printed me off 3 exploded diagrams of the pump! I've only had time to have a brief look but I think I know where the bit came from. I'll have a proper look at some point in the next few days.
