MOT Query

Unread post by oldfruit »

Hi all
My last MOT had an advisory for cracks of a tyre sidewall. As this is only cosmetic and there's no pressure loss, will this be a fail this time?

Absolutely yes!

I normally replace my tyres because of sidewall cracking long before the tread is worn due to the miles I don't do. It's galling but for safety and peace of mind it's essential...

It really depends on how bad the cracking is though.... MOT testers flag up all sorts of spurious stuff on advisories these days! Some light cracking of the sidewalls is normal on a 2-3 year old tyre, however, if any are starting to 'lift', or you can see the internals of the tyre then time for a change.

Me too. The tyres are the only things keeping every vehicle under control.

You'll probably get them as an advisory again, but it's not a reason for refusal.

Change them anyway though, even the worst brand new budget tyres will be better than perished premium tyres.

that reminds me of the tyre paint we used to see back in the 70ties   #-o , thick as old tar, thats the stuff you need  :-D ,

it not only covers up the cracks but also reinforces the tyre wall :yikes: :rofl2:
