C8 Auto Transmission Slipping between first and second

Post by MikeRatcliffe »

2003 Citroen C8 HDi 2.0

My transmission slips between first and second, especially when it is hot. I just had my car at an auto transmission specialists that said my tranny isn't registering any slip faults but if it was then they would only replace the transmission rather than repairing it.

What the heck, are there no mechanics left? Seems like the world is being overtaken by fitters.

I am fairly convinced that flushing the fluid and changing the filter will fix the problem before it gets any worse. Does anybody know of an auto transmission specialist that actually repairs transmissions?

Someone around Corby, Northants would be best but anywhere around the general Northamptonshire area would be great.

A flush and new fluid will help, but this stuff works very well and may well solve the problem without the need for expensive repairs.

Just ordered it.

Is there a simple way to add it to the transmission?

Good to hear you're going to give it a try, will be interesting to hear the outcome. It's simply poured into the box, same as the ATF. Before filling, I suppose, if the box has been drained, but it can just be put straight in if the fluid is ok.

Yep, doesn't seem to make any difference. Only 2 litres came out when I removed the drain plug and left it for a few hours (I did warm the engine first).

Maybe I should remove the level plug when the engine is warm and let any extra drain out? I doubt that it is overfilled by much though.

No relevant experience with French automatics, but I'm surprised you got that much out of the drain plug.
You'll have at least as much stuck in the torque converter, with another litre or so in the plumbing, valves, clutches etc.
With some cars you can get the majority of this out by popping the oil cooler pipe off and running the engine. I can't say whether this is safe on a PSA one, but if you try it, be warned the oil will come out FAST, so be prepared. Stop the engine immediately the oil stops coming, because the torque converter will no longer be lubricated.
You'll have strong hands by the time you finish re-filling, using squeezy bottles :-D

I don't have any expieriance of french autos but old ford autos basically any problem was 2 or 3 questions::
1: what colour is the oil, if it is discoloured change it and filter immediately
2:whats the level of oil, if it is low add more,
3:if level is low is it leaking,

basically most problems with the autos ive played with is lack of fluid/ to much fliuid or fluid contamination for example fluid has got to hot and burned or breaking up brake bands
