Hydractive Suspension fault.

Post by williamblackett1968 »

Hi, im looking for some advice on my Citroen C5 VTR Estate. I.6hdi vtr. 2005 Model 91,000 Miles.

The car is sitting all the way down at the back after about an hour or so of being parked. It comes back up to level on operating the doors. Suspension also works fine, just drops at the back when parked. It had new Cylinders and Spheres 30,000 miles ago, there are no leaks. Does anyone have an idea of where the problem may lie. My local Citroen Specialist advises not to worry as no fluid leaks and car comes up, but looks pretty odd sitting the way it does when parked.

I noticed a few weeks ago the car was sitting slightly lower than usual at the back, probably 25-50mm, but then one morning was all the way down. Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, William.

If its the same as the Xantia there is an internal leak back which is allowing the back to sink. As said, not really a problem.

Hi thanks, not sure if the same as a xantia, i believe the early ones were similar, mine is the facelift model. I'd like to have it fixed but worried it will cost too much. My car is near mint for its age.

If it were a Xantia, I'd suggest checking when the LHM was last changed; a tiny bit of dirt trapped in the A/S valve would stop it closing (fully) letting the back sink slowly. When we first had the Green Lady 8 years ago, she would slowly sink over a couple of days. Once all the ancient murky yellow/brown stuff had been flushed out the suspension behaved perfectly. Left without being started for the last 9 months (including hundreds of miles on a transporter), she dropped about 25mm all round.

Was happening to my 1.6 vtr facelift when I got it.....it needed to be topped up (a lot ..1 ltr !), the pump also ran all the time on max height.
